    Hi everyone,

I have a question on installing the HS 3 AAL onto my TRD OR 2017. I'm looking to get approx. 2 inch lift which means keep the overload leaf in. When I took out the stock leafs, there was a rectangular block (I think its a spacer) that was under the overload leaf.

My question is do I need to still use this rectangular block below the overload? I'm intuition tells me that I'm not suppose to because the new HS bolt head won't go through the rectangular block hole diameter. Am I right?

Also, is the process of installing billys 5100 in the rear is to install the HS leaf pack first and then put the shock in or vice versa?

    Thank you!

Was your truck bought used? There should be no spacer under the overload leaf.

Old shock should be removed before putting in the leaf pack and new shock installed after the leaf pack, just to give you the most elbow room.

Be sure to torque the lower shock bolt with weight on the axle.

Is the block sizable in thickness? If so it sounds like a rear spacer lift and should be discarded. If it is a super thin shim it should be reused.

    Hey guys,

The truck was purchased brand new. Yes I agree, it is strange that there is a block under there. The thickness of the block piece is around 1/4" and its made out of metal. To me it looks like the purpose of that block being there is to allow the stock leaf bolt's head to sit in.

I'll be home in 25 minutes so I can take a picture of it to show you guys. Thank you for the help!

I'll be attempting to finish the 3AAL install tonight so I'll keep you all posted.

    Consistent thickness? No taper?

    Hey everyone,

Finally got home and took some pictures, please see attachments. There's no overload lead in the picture but that block was sitting below with the head of the bolt going through the whole on that piece. The piece is consistent thickness. I guess the other question is, is it ok to have the overload leaf to be at the very bottom touching that axle base instead of that 1/4" block.

    Thanks again!

Oh I just double checked, the block is tapered. Ok so the shim can fit in. Whew... I think I answered my own question. So reading by layers from top to bottom I got:

    OEM 3 leafs
    3 HS AAL
    Overload
    Tapered shim.

I want to say they started doing that pad in 2017 and it coincided with a TSB for driveline vibration.
