Those idiots are wrong, it's clearly a Lexus engine and Lexus doesn't have a mini van.

I am guilty myself yes I use house brand in most of my vehicles but for the boys race bikes I am guilty of paying a premium for Klotz Supertechniplate 2 stroke not to be confused with super tech and there is a difference for certain it smells like candy and is bright pink when it's poured out of the bottle ..... That being said there are lots of kids winning out there on less expensive bikes with less expensive oils
Each oil has its place and market and I will say again unless you ask to go back in the service bay and see with your own eye what bulk system and storage they have or question their distributor and do some research on the hands on level don't trust a dealership with your oil branding if it's make or break

 

Actually...the 2GR engine currently used in the Taco started out life in 2004 in the '05 Avalon. It eventually trickled it's way across much of the front wheel drive Toyota line up, replacing the 1MZ/3MZ engines and trickling upward into Lexus applications that shared Toyota platforms. The 1GR and 3GR engines already had longitudinal applications. So it was only a matter of time before Toyota pointed a 2GR north/south.

It's gained some tech over the years with upgraded management systems and direct injection etc. But the basic bones are still there.

So more accurately....your Lexus has a "Toyota" engine

0w20 oil is recommended for Toyotas. I use it all the time.

 

I "kinda" feel the same way however, with the newer engines having minimal tolerances, better metals, higher quality machining, I think the lower viscosity oil will work. Less restriction and you know the Government thinks it's a good idea. I'm very old school and used to have a Harley repair shop. When Harley started to use the synthetics I was very reluctant to make the change. The "older" bikes didn't like it at all ... lots of leaks and new noises so I continued to use straight weights in them however, the newer models seemed to enjoy the fully synthetics and performed very well. Lots less wear on internal parts and less noise and leaks. You might consider the fact that auto transmissions operate at a very high temp with lots of stress and use a very thin fluid.I'm no expert, just my take on the subject. I did go from Mobil 1 to Valvoline Racing 20-50 in my 418 stroker Cobra. Oil pressure went from idle at about 35lbs. to around 50lbs. and at 2500rpm from 45lbs. to 65lbs. I'll know more about the wear factor when I make the next oil change.

The oil comes from a distributor. They have it stored in bulk. They deliver it to Toyota dealerships.

That's because oil is a complicated topic that requires the in-depth discussion that can only be found in the 3rd gen forum. How much, what kind, how often to change it - these are important points that obviously can't be found in the manual.

I meant its not Toyota ordering it, it's independent dealerships.

 

It isn’t the exact blend as Mobil 1 but they basically spec the same on paper. Toyota’s blend has shown better cold start properties in data. Negligible in real life though. Keep oil in it. Make sure it’s of proper weight and rating. Drive your truck. End thread.
