Really want to install a snorkel on my prerunner but...prerunner. Obvi won’t be using this to become a boat but mainly to intake cleaner air for the dusty roads I drive down almost daily...and it looks really cool. Is this too mallcrawler-ish? Is my worry about frequent dusty air in the engine valid? Thoughts?

It's your truck. Do whatever you want to do to it. Let everyone else be damned!!! I personally say 'Do It'!! I think they look good.
The air intake is in the RF wheelwell. If you're on dusty roads that often. It definately won't hurt.

Take the prerunner emblem off the tailgate and 95% of the people out there will think it's a 4WD.

Speaking from my own experience living in an insanely dusty place the snorkel has helped tremendously in keeping the filter clean. Not to mention it is handy during monsoon season so I don't get stuck at home as easy.

is there a particular popular go-to snorkel that everyone tends to get?

I honestly don't know if it's the dobinsons one or not; I have heard that name mentioned a few times before though

If I had to guess I'd say the most mainstream snorkel would be the ARB Safari. The Dobinsons one is a popular option because the price is good.

I’m running the Hilux snorkel off Amazon. Install wasn’t easy but it was way cheaper. At highway speeds the intake temp is the same as ambient air.

That looks great. Very slim and not bulky at all.

Not bad for $150. Install was tricky though. I love it

Splash through a puddle just right and you can hydro lock your motor. Hilux snorkel is $150. Cheap insurance. Where I live it floods a lot and hurricanes every year... I’ve already used it twice on paved roads

The stock intake level is around the top of the wheel well liner, so around there. But apparently with the Tacoma its not so hard to get water into the stock location even if the water is not that high.

Thanks for the responses, mind is made up! So basically mod a hilux snorkel, ARB, or Dobinson.

I have the Dobinson's model so I can only speak for it, the price is really good and the quality is also great. However the fitment isn't exactly perfect in my experience when using the included template but its like 95% there. Just have to open the mounting holes up slightly.

    never understood 4x4 mud flaps

They're ugly and RokBlokz are better

I wanna see how to put I-beam front suspension on a 4x4 truck
because race trucks don't have to worry about a diff up front
and they're not crawling boulders slowly
I keep my 4x4 in 2wd mode up trails if I can because the rear wheels just slide a little and it seems gentler on the clutch

It’s your truck bro! If you like or want or have any reason for the snorkel. Then do it! Don’t worry about the haters, they’re usually just jealous they didn’t think of it first.
