I do not have remote entry. Only a smart key.
Is there a way to lock the key in my 2017 Tacoma while the engine is still running without having the automatic locks engage?
Basically to keep it running at the job site without always shutting it down, but adding a little security.

Not quite sure what you mean by no remote entry but have smart key, buts let's try this. If you have push button start, there is a little metal key in the fob. Use that key to lock your door with the engine running.

As soon as the door opens the engine turns off. So if you can't start the truck from the outside now, you will need a remote start to do so.

No key fob. No push start. just a regular key with a chip in it.

Roll the driver's window down, get out, shut the door, reach in and lock the doors, hit the auto up on the window.

Remote starts don't cost that much, and are very convenient. I know it's not what you asked, but jeez. It could also keep your truck from getting stolen, some thieves are brazen enough to knock out the window, and drive off.

In Texas, if your vehicle is stolen as a result of you leaving the key in the vehicle, insurance is not obligated to cover the loss per state law... Your laws may be different, but worth looking into.

    Yes, here's how:

    1. Open the truck with the fob unlock button. One click only, to open driver door only.

    2. Start the truck.

    3. Get out, close the door, and use the physical key to lock the driver door.

Engine is running, all doors secured. You'll need to use the physical key to unlock the door again.
