Consider that roughly 18% of drivers know to drive a stick and only 5% of vehicles sold in the US are manual transmissions. The Tacoma appeals to a different audience however.

The person that really wants a manual will wait and search, and probably even travel a bit to get the right truck. It may take a little longer to sell than an auto truck, but it will sell.

If the next generation loses the manual (could happen, ya know) value for manual 3rd gens may even go up. Who knows?

If he is a M/T fan, he didn't have anything to do with the early M/T calibrations, that I can tell you with 100% confidence lol

Most buyers will not want the MT; but a select few will settle for nothing else.
At only 16,000 miles it's just broken in.

I’d love to know the MT take rate on the 3rd gens. I’m sure it falls in the range of your numbers above.

Either way, in 15 years when MT’s are finally extinct, there will be a niche buyer for a MT Tacoma.

I agree thanks to nostalgia. From what I have researched 5 out of 100 Tacoma buyers elect to have 3-pedals.

I read an article a few months back that said the take rate is right at 5%. Not great, but not terrible considering U.S. car buyer's preferences, and the fact that the manual only comes on a few configurations now. Also, when I was searching for my truck about 1 in 20 were manual, which seems to back up the 5% take rate.

And to answer the original question, being a manual will drive away 90-95% of buyers, but that 5-10% enthusiast crowd will REALLY want it. It might take a little while longer to sell than an automatic, but you won't have any problems. Some weirdo like me will drive hundreds of miles and pay asking price so they can have their 3 pedal truck.

A manual transmission is a modern day theft deterrent system! Very few young people can drive them. Should not effect the ability to sell it to the right person.

I love my 2017 MT and would buy again in a heart beat. Actually, they had a few on the lot along with a used 2015... I choose my truck and would buy again.

    It's a 3rd gen so it's basically like the 7th Gen Civic.

Main reason I got the Tacoma is because they don't offer a 4Runner in manual. I'm sure you'll find others like me, especially in the used market.

    I'm 27, FWIW.

Hey man I'm all for bashing the 3rd gen Taco. But a 7th gen civic? That's messed up lol. Worst civic ever built.

The problem with middle aged Michelle... is middle aged Michelle.

The guilty yet satisfied feelings she has from that orgasm she had last week from her Womanizer has her thinking about a direct connection to her driveline. She's asking the question: "what does it feel like to make that shit happen, directly".

She wants a manual. She's just afraid

    Donger:

Demand for YOUR manual truck is low.

Conversely, demand for a used manual Tacoma for which the owner hasn’t broadcast its warranty issues on the internet, will be high.

    Any other questions?

All my manual vehicles have sold super quick - Mustang, GTI, and Forester all were gone within one week of posting on craigslist/cars.com. All those have large enthusiast bases just like the Tacoma does so it should go fast as long as you price it fairly.
