My 2008 had the treatment and they got it all ove the silver paint on the lower body. It is water based so it was removed. However, it started coming off within a year and I traded it on a 15.

Now I have the letter for my 15 that has seen 5 winters. I put tons of fluid film on each year and there is no way their CRC coating will stick. Should be an interesting discussion at the dealer when the time comes.

I have seen pics of trucks from the first CRC campaign. The stuff flakes off with age. The only long term benefit is upholding the extended frame warranty.

Honestly, I think they depend upon the breakage. By that I mean, most people simply won’t get it done. Like a rebate. They get you to buy, but you just forget to process the rebate. Some are in the mindset of trading every 3-5 yrs and don’t Give a f—k.

This way they can say they put out a remedy and now some low percentage of the trucks have warranties on their frames while most won’t.

The coating really does not do much. Many of us already have the frame rotting from the inside out. Many dealers neglect to do inside the frame. On a 5 yr old truck like mine the train has left the station. The rust process is likely underway. This coating actually helps hide the damage and prolong the discovery. Not sure I will get it done. Won’t have the truck in 12 years or even 6 so...

I know my frame coating process (fluid film) is better from experience. I just don’t see how their inferior process helps beyond having a small percentage of owners get it done and then a small percentage of those owners keeping the truck 8–10 yrs to get a frame replaced.

Honestly, the third gens just don’t do it for me. Three things. The pathetic engine (and it is pathetic, I have had several loaners over the years), the ridiculous looking nose on it, and no orange turn signals. So clinging to the ‘15 for dear life. Coming from a 2003 Dcab TRD, a 2008 Dcab TRD, and a 2015 Dcab TRD. And trust me, I so wanted to love the third gen. I am ready to trade now but just can’t.

Toyota frames are not e-coated. They are painted.

Ah, another Dodge and Toyota connection besides Chief Engineer of the Tacoma Mike Sweers being a former Chrysler Engineer.
