Is there an extended warranty on the market anyone can recommend for a 2019 Taco? Just wondering if it's a worthwhile investment or a scam....

I would stay away from any 3rd party warranty as it won't be backed by Toyota.

I wouldn't call it a scam but I've never purchased one for any Toyota I've bought new (2 Taco's, 1 FJ, 2 Prius) and never once slightly regretted it.

EDIT: I meant the extended warranty offered at new and slightly after I think by Toyota. Stay away from any 3 rd party IMO

    Yeah.
Yes! I'm thinking $6k, just need to work up the terms.

Kidding. Warranties are voluntary socialism. Your money, your call, but no.

The dealer warranties are so marked up. I told the guy he could make $50 commission off me and I got the extended warranty on my 4Runner for just over $500. It was the platinum That covers to 85k, it already paid for itself when the passenger door lock actuator went out and the neutral safety switch in the transmission.

I never buy warranty on anything but this seemed like a no brainer.

    Steer clear of aftermarket companies

If you're talking about calls offering you to purchase warranty, THAT is a scam. I've gotten a few calls til I told them to fuck off.
If you want to purchase warranty, there's only one place you should go. The Toyota dealership.

I don't think "scam" is the right word for it. Well except for those robo calls I get. But I won't buy one, not even the factory extended warranty. I've been driving since the early 1970's and have never once had to pay for a single repair that would have saved me a dime. The cost of the warranty would have always exceeded any repair costs. If I blow an engine tomorrow and have to spend $5k out of my pocket to have it replaced I'm still money ahead.

In my experience any manufacturing defect will show up well before the typical 3 year 36 month warranty expires. If you make it that far the odds are pretty good that you'll go at least 200,000 miles before anything breaks that would come close to costing more than you paid for the warranty.

They are a bit deceptive when they advertise those. They scare people with inflated estimates of what repairs will cost. Like telling them that if the transmission goes out it will cost you $5K-$8K to get it replaced. In the real world, with an independent mechanic the cost would be closer to $2K-$3K.

Sometimes people get lucky and save a few bucks on a repair that is covered. But the vast majority will not, and over a lifetime of driving you'll spend far more paying for the warranty than just paying for the repairs. They don't sell those things to lose money.

I’ve been driving Toyota’s since 05, never needed a warranty. All trucks or SUVs, most miles were 217K.

I paid $5k for 10 year warranty and maintenance the day I bought the truck. Extended warranty is supposed to be 7 years but I originally declined it and then they made it 10 years. Easy choice for me at that point lol.

Yeah lol. I just wanted to have it vs. not have it at all at that point. Plus knowing I wouldn't have to pay for service for 10 years seemed like a good deal

I paid $900 for an additional 4 yr/70000 mile factory BToB warranty. To me it was well worth it.

The 3rd party warranties are a pain in the butt. As a former tech, we had to wait for the warranty company to approve repairs. That took days just for them to approve and that was if they didn’t send out an adjuster to check it out. Also my mom had purchased one for her Honda (without asking me) and had to get a head gasket replaced. It was covered. Took one week to get it approved. As it was getting repaired the advisor tells us that the alternator was “damaged” and needed replacement. I told him to add it to the warranty since it was covered. After several more days, it was approved for a cheaper reman alternator. The warranty company would not pay for an OEM one and the reman one would have taken another week to arrive. So we split the cost on a factory alternator just to get the car back sooner. Took about a month for a head gasket job on a Honda... it also didn’t cover sending the head to get pressure checked and decked. After all that, the amount we paid was more than what it would have costed me to do it and took a whole month! I am not a fan of 3rd party warranties. I will buy extended warranties for my truck for the engine and transmission only. Anything else I’ll fix on my own.

I have had three tacoma's over the last 16 years and have never had one issue other than normal maintenance, The only way I would spend the $$ is if it was unlimited mileage and I put a lot more miles on than I currently do.

It was my first car buying experience. I got screwed I know. And I bet the lift and mods I wanna do will prevent me from being covered if anything happens.

    It's a Toyota. No.

A European or Chrysler car? Absolutely.
