There’s an artist down here that makes chairs from huge rootballs turns them upside down and carves a seat out with grinder

dupe received, and thank you again, especially for the maple piece. my wife smiled when she saw it.
    FIL gets the scraper, win-win-win.

and to follow up on my green table. i couldn't decide how to protect it without destroying it, and how to let it go to the kids for a family dining table. the answer finally hit me as it's already green. so i went with a cut to fit sheet of tempered glass and it's perfect.

    Thanks :)
I’m gonna plane it down to 3/8” or so. I’ll post a pic when it’s done, hopefully I won’t butcher it too badly with the bandsaw lol

Looks great :) I’ve always wondered how well those things work, I can’t wait to see it in action

how did you lay out the curves and the handle? I’m gonna try to do something similar with the pizza launcher I’m working on lol

Thanks! I used a glue bottle, the cap from a bench grinder, and a carving tool handle...lol

So the carving tool was for the small arc by the top where the hole is, the grinder part for the middle handle arc, and glue bottle for the shoulder. Cut on bandsaw, then sanded

Ok following up on my Slab wood questions, sorry for the delay. And thanks for your answers and information so far, it's been quite helpful!

To expand on the situation: The wood is currently in Clovis, CA - not Sacramento. It's my good buddy's and I didn't realize how much there was. The original plan was to move it up here - but that's just impossible, it's a massive amount of wood.

Here are some photos of the stash. Unfortunately the coverings he had over the wood were torn apart this month by a storm. I guess he replaces these tarps every few months. I snagged a few and brought them up to Rocklin with me - pictured in the Taco bed pics.

thats some nice figured woods. The blackish stuff on the boards is technically water stains but sanding would take that off. Looks like some nice stuff, the short stuff looks like good candidates for epoxy table...the one with your foot on would be an awesome epoxy coffee table...

For the whole lot... I’d say easily. Clean up the bark on some and see what shows more interest in your area. What a great find.
