long time Tacoma fan here. Had a Tundra and a couple other Toyota products and am looking to downsize from the Tundra to a Tacoma.

1st gens are pretty rarely for sale where I live (BC, Canada) and I found the one below. I could get it for about $7500 Canadian (5780 USD). Providing it passes a mechanical inspection what do you guys think?

figured I’d get your advice - apologies if this is in the wrong section.

    Tasteful modifications :)
I mean it looks good but the only thing I’d be worried about is how long the 6 inch lift has been on it for and if any of the necessary parts have ever been replaced front and rear end wise. The lifts that are large (4inch+) lifts cause a lot of issues usually in suspension components. I’d also have a look at the frame because it doesn’t look although there is an image provided, not sure if they use salt in BC but yeah. Looks good otherwise

Well firstly, that’s an extracab, not a regular cab... lol

Not that we can tell much from a single pic, but the specs seem pretty decent, and it’s a good price assuming the maintenance is actualy up to date. Most of that “lots of work done” seems geared towards “cool mods and stuff”, not maintenance. I’d rather have a good idea how often the oil was changed or if the lower ball joints have been replaced.

Find out when the timing belt was replaced, too. The normal interval is 90k miles (~140k km), or 9 years.

I’m no fan of 6” lifts, but at least fabtech is one of the better ones that doesn't use those crap balljoint spacers. But it is still just a spacer lift with spindles, and a block lift in the back. 6” lifts do put extra strain on the drivetrain, despite what the manufacturers tell you. They don’t do a great job of dealing with driveline angles. The other problem is you cut out a cross member for the drop bracket which makes reverting to a smalller lift (prefered for higher performance/off roading) harder.

Most importantly, CHECK THE FRAME FOR RUST.

Looks like they combined a 5100/ OME coil lift with the fabtech spacers. Probably 8-9" of lift there. That poor driveshaft :(.

Look like the front door has been repainted.

6" lift, no thank you. Too hard on the front axles if 4x4 (doesn't say).

Really, where did you get that information from? DB lift put less strain on the front end compared to your average 2-3" lift. Less binding on the cv/boot. But ooooook.

Yeah, that's classic stacking lifts. The pic doesn't look TOO bad, but it's hard to tell. Hopefully the 5100s are set at the lowest setting. but stacking the OMEs in there is a bad idea.

Hey guys, appreciate all the replies and info. He got a little snakey when I asked to have a mechanical inspection done even with me paying for it, so my gut is telling me no right now. Guess it's back to waiting for another (hopefully closer to stock) one to come along.

    Cheers fellas!

Probably better given the questionable lift he had.

Best to find one withOUT a lift. It’s better to do the lift yourself, so it’s done to your own standards. People can really screw up their truck with an improper lift.

    Good luck with the search!!
