What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

You're right, speaker installs should be easy, but not in this case. First there are the funky Toyota connectors which seem to change yearly. You either need the right adapter or you have to cut them out and solder in new connects. This is extra work and hard to undo if you need to go back to stock.
Next the tweeters are in parallel with the main speakers, so the 4 wires for the tweeter are bridged to two. If that doesn't happen, then the main speaker won't get signal.
Last is apparently the old wiring was plus-plus-minus-minus and is now plus-minus-plus-minus. This means the adapters have to be modified.

Why concerned about "plug and play". Well not a lot of people know wiring so they want it easy. Plus there is already enough work pulling the door panel and mounting the speakers, so why not make the wiring painless. Just because I know how to wire in a system doesn't mean I plan to spend the day making a new harness and soldering wires. Things have changed, it should be much easier and taco tunes really dropped the ball here.

You ever go outside and just check out the truck? Need to spray some rubberized undercoating and bedliner on the inside of my wheel well today since I won't be retaining the plastic liners when I install my +2 mcneil's... Fenders are getting painted today, going look bitchin when they're on

I just used dinne basic rustoleum 2x cover paint and primer flat black, with a rustoleum 2x cover matte clear coat. I cleaned the surface really well, making sure to get the edges cleaned well. Then I dished the cans in hot water for about ten minutes to reduce globs if paint coming out (plus it was about 20 °f when I did it, doo it was a bit necessary) I sprayed 2 light coats of black, getting decent coverage with about 10 minutes in between, and 1 medium coat to make sure it's covered and to avoid orange peal. Waited about one hour for all pieces to dry, and followed the same procedure with the clear coat. After the black had dried, I also took a microfiber towel, and gently whiteout off anything bumps or dust that had collected on the parts to make it as smooth as possible

 

I switched to Sensus light grips. Changed my life.

I added the black nerf bars and switched today to the '18 TRD OR wheels with Wranglers from the stock '09 SR5s. This old truck is a slow work in progress but it'll keep getting better. 6mo old baby keeps stealing my time and money

Speakers are all in, and they actually sound a lot better. Didn't realize how crappy the stock speakers were.



And here is what is going on inside the OEM Toyo tweeter wiring. Notice the 2 to 1 wire "manifold" design. I guess this accelerates the sound to give more HP?
This may be designed for a crossover at the tweeter that never happened. So, instead they join the wires, backfeed the other speaker and choke off the excess with a big resistor.



And while I'm on the subject of bad design let's look at the stock "big" speaker's magnet. What joke! The tweeter actually has a bigger magnet and the new speaker's magnet is monstrous in comparison.
Any engineer who thinks this cheap azz speaker belongs in a 30K truck should be working for Kia.

Uhaul site says there is an issue with my truck combined with the trailer. It only lets me select the tow dolly, I can’t use that because the bug ain’t registered and I need the room for other parts.

 

Did the voltmeter/usb mod today.

 

The total for my 4 speakers came to $111.99, which was a pretty good deal considering most of the adapters worked. The tweeters and mid bass fit without issue, so only the tweeter adapter was a fail.
If they had responded to any of my questions this would have gone smoother, but in the end it wasn't that hard. I'm pretty good with a soldering iron after all these years of stereo wiring.

Painted my drivers side wheel well using rustoleum bedliner and rustoleum rubberized undercoating (only used bedliner on the already textured/rubberized section directly above the suspension components)... Scuffed everything up with a red scotch write pad and cleaned with rubbing alcohol. Used 2 coats of bedliner first the two coats of undercoating, went heavy and wasn't worried about runs, also painted as far behind the door as possible since most stuff picked up off the road will be tossed into that spot.

Finished up with a pass of rubbing alcohol/water mix with a microfiber over the whole truck to remove any overspray since I painted out in the wind

 

About to go back out and fab some brackets to mount my new KC flex duals on my bumper

What in the heck is going on at Toyota?

 

Built a super simple bed platform for my dogs/kids. It’s primarily for the dogs but the kids liked it a lot. Two GSD female 65# and male 115# they take up way too much room inside when it’s more than my wife and Myself.

Riley our female is the only one that would get up in it. The male kept standing by the back door waiting for his throne.

There’s actually two more 2x10 in the front all the side pieces are mounted with hinges so it’s a super quick take down if we need the whole bed. Only thing I screwed up on was not cutting the boards short enough to account for the outdoor carpet. I’m hoping it will wear down if not I’ll pull the carpet of one piece and cut a 1/2” of wood off.
