I’ve walked up to my truck on 3 separate occasions recently and my truck would be sitting there running. I had not touched key faub or even had it with me. Thoughts on what the heck is up?

    Lets start with the basics.

Do you have a remote start?

    4 options come to mind

    1) last to drive didn't turn it off
    2) someone with access to your keys/fob is pranking you
    3) you are trolling us
    4) you need serious warranty work. Except the dealer will say 'can't replicate'

Hate to say it, but if I had to bet tomorrow's lunchtime diet Coke, based on the limited info offered, I'd go with #3.

    No remote start !

Do these new trucks just need to have the key fob close to start with a push button?

I’m not trolling.... believe me I’ve got better things to do. I’m leaning toward the demonic possession or serious warranty issues. Geesh. Since the first time it occurred I’ve been extremely diligent to make sure I’ve turned the dang thing off before I exit the vehicle. I’m concerned that it sitting there running for extended periods is going to hurt the engine.

Probably bother your neighbors more than the engine. It has a push button start? Even so you still have to push the brake paddle yes? You are the only one in possion of the key?

Is this a new or used purchase?

Does pressing lock 3 times start the engine? (You may be surprised if the dealer installed an after market one and just didn't hype it up, for 2019). Toyota buys from anyone and anywhere. I've got Toyota dealership accounts so I know. So if you just got this vehicle, you may be inadvertently pressing lock 3 times or more while you walk away...it takes about 6 seconds to crank so if it's in your driveway each time (short walk to door step), or a loud busy parking lot where it drowns out with the possibility of other cars starting and you just not noticing, you may just be missing this is happening.

If it's not that, two other things come to mind. One is ignition switch going bad, or...

Is it always at the same location when this happens? For example, in your driveway? It could be a neighbor with a code reader/decryptor who just discovered how to capture a signal when you had happened to be using your fob, and is now just trigger happy playing/testing this...does it always happen during waking hours and never when everyone is asleep? That's a cue right there. If you get a remote start with smart module, you could watch the doorlock status on your doors to see if they are being unlocked when you KNOW for a fact you had locked them...that's another sign right there. These scenarios are SO RARE, but they do exist...I'd make sure you're locking this vehicle and put a motion triggered camera like a Ring or something to see if whomever is doing this, (if this is the case), isn't tugging on your doors to (not so much steal anything) but to see if they actually "locked" or unlocked it. Watch other neighbors if their cars are doing the same things. Such a far out conspiracy theory, I know, but not out of reach. I really hope this IS NOT the case...but a 2019 is way too new for something of this magnitude to go bad and I would have it checked because you don't know what else can happen if it is such a glitch...as in engine shutting off while driving too.

Put a camera on it if it's doing this at home...record it so you have a time stamp of when it starts, and how long it runs. When it's running, I'd be curious if its so much of a glitch that you can actually unlock it while running, and even more so, if you push the brake pedal if it stops, or you can actually drive off. Normal PTS with remote starts should stop running when any door is opened but anything goes here if you truly don't have a remote start. The only way to start this is to have a remote start that has been taught with the fob near by, on the CAN BUS during programming, then when initiated all it does is ground the ignition to start...

Also, if demonic presence is the last theory. Go to church, light a candle, confess your sins, make a donation, and get some holy water and a priest to make a home-visit to pray upon this evil thing. Because today it's just engine cranking, but tomorrow it's plowing you or someone down.

Lastly, when it is running, talk into your smart watch and ask it to do a turbo boost or swing around and pick you up. If it does, I'd recommend replacing a light bar with an alternating RED LED bar in grill and give him a name. If I may make a suggestion, "KARR" is a great one if it's evil! "KITT" if it's humble.

    NO. Don’t do this!

Can you imagine the horror in his eyes when he goes out to reinstall his battery in the demon truck and its running?

    Just not worth it IMO.

    Did you buy this new?
It may have a remote start installed
and with no antenna try your key fob
Lock lock lock see what happens
It can also be configured for
Lock unlock lock try that too
One other thing is that it may have
MyCar system that can be remotely started from a cell phone anywhere in
North America also has GPS tracker
Some banks may require this to be installed. Did you buy from the rental fleet my have and not know or the previous owner could be starting it up

I’ve heard this problem happens on manual transmission Tacoma’s. There have been a few reports of it on 3rdgentacoma.com and toyotanation.com

Manuals Starting themselves? It's takes a special type of exorcism to rid the demon holding the clutch in, or pressing the Clutch Cancel button...at least this evil has good taste pickin stick...

Just purchased a used 2019 Toyota Tacoma and had a similar experience. Truck WAS turned off, and we were standing beside it with my keys pocket. The next thing you know, the truck cranked on its own. I do not have remote start. I have a type C key, and do not have keyless start key fob.
