Wow this thread has got me thinking .

literally 3 weeks ago I came home and a father and son who was 6 were riding down our street which is a slight hill .
2 weeks ago my nephew was out in front of his house doing tricks . My wife saw my eyes light up which started the discussion.
I’m 51 and about 60lbs overweight. I’m seriously looking at buying my first board in over 25 yrs. I figure if I need to exercise I might as well have fun. Granted my glory days of the late 70’s to80’s are over but I can still have fun I bet .

Skatin is definitely a hard thing to just pick back up after a short hiatus, let alone a long one but I'd grab something wide, with 55mm+ wheels, fairly soft and give'er! Nothing wrong with just cruisin around, and nothing replaces that feeling either. Have Fun!

Those metal rings held the ends of the coper to the axle. The tracker trucks were popular for pool/ramp because they had a lot of plastic and were lighter but did break pretty easily on a hard landing. People who rode Indy’s thought they felt strange in a turn, which didn’t matter to some as much in a pool.

Obviously the easiest/cheapest choice for copers was plastic shopping cart handles and metal zip ties or hose clamps if avail to help keep them from popping off.

Those copers are a part of history, a good find. My guess would be early 80’s.

yea, these things are a part of history for sure, I'm 53 and have been skating since the 70's. I still skate today, and have a few old collector boards, love it.
We used to use pvc to make our own copers way back.
Gullwing are my trucks of choice, my buddies liked indy's and trackers. I have a mint set of Gullwing magnesiums that I ride to this day :)
I should take some pics of my other boards,,,,
I just found this thread so cool,,,, THanks @tacoma_ca

Yeah cutting out PVC pipe perfectly with a coping saw to hold at the ends and miss the bolt and bushings in the middle, and when you had a good design you saved it as a master to duplicate from. I just realized that might be where the word ‘copers’ is derived from. I still skate and mountain board behind my dog full speed which is pretty fun, like wake boarding but hurts more when you eat it. I remember those magnesium trucks you speak of. They were good for streetskating, I think that was the only lightweight metal option but I never had them.

Nice! I had the same red everslick in 7th grade. Mine wasn’t a Dressen though, back then they called it a Santa Cruz team board or something. I’m gonna have to grab one of those too! I might have to skate it though...

Your avatar looks like that pool was the deep pool at the end of the snake at Upland based on all the vert and that fence. Is that right, and was that you on the coping back in the day?

I’m wondering if those where the yr’s when Jason Jesse,Jeff Grosso,Etc.rode those when vert skating was transitioning downward and street skating was taking over.

Not Upland but i’m familiar with Pipeline. That’s where i learned to skate vert/transitional back in 1982.

The picture in my avatar is one of my favorite skateboarders of all time,Darrell “Knarls” Miller.Paramount Skatepark(CA.)year 1979.Pool was 16 foot deep pool.
