Battery replacement. Terminal orientation?

Had to replace my battery this morning. The battery I picked up from Walmart has the terminal orientation towards the front of the vehicle and I can’t extend the positive wires to get enough reach. Any suggestions?

 

You have the wrong battery. Tacoma batteries have reversed terminals.

Swap it for the correct battery.

 

Maybe get the right battery? Why change the truck when you can just change the battery.

 

You got the wrong battery size. Should be group 27F instead of group 27. A group 35 or 24F will work as well.

 

those battery clamps aren't helping either. give those a brush.

 

I agree, swap it for the correct battery. Just because it's the same size they do come in different orientations. Also get you a can of Coca-Cola and pour on your battery cable end, it will clean some of the acid off.

Fortunately you didn't connect the terminals in reverse polarity. That would've been an expensive error.

 

Go with the 27F type...it will be better able to handle the alternator (amp) outputs.....worth the time to return and or exchange for the correct battery.

They didn't have 27F, so i settled on a 24F instead.

 

27F - stock size on 2nd gens w/ towing pkg
35 - stock size on 2nd gens w/o towing pkg
24F - stock size on 3rd gens w/ towing pkg

 

When my OEM 27F failed, all I could find locally was a 24F. I bought it (reluctantly) but no complaints, it's been fine for several years.

With your terminals cleaned up, give 'em a coating of dielectric grease to help prevent further corrosion.

No. but id still replace the terminals on my battery if they looked like that.

 

You can’t replace the terminals on the battery they are cast into the battery case.
