Thank goodness I live in the "country". Laid-back lifestyle, polite drivers for the most part. Traffic jams? Yep, even up here.....15 to 20 minute wait for cattle to cross the road. Open range here abouts.

 

I have never encountered rev hang! What's wrong with my truck? I bought a dud! I used to chirp tires with my old 5.0L Mustangs. While drag racing the throttle never left the floor, it sounded like I was running over dog every time I hit the next gear with the cheater slicks barking.

 

The rev hang in the second gens is a mildly annoying. It always takes me a minute to adjust when I switch between my first gen and my second gen. Much prefer the gear box in the first gen even though i think 1st and second gear are too high.

 

I usually shift 2500-3000 but 1-2 is definitely better around 3500

 

Powershifting is quite fun!!!

 

I miss my Eclipse, that was some damn good shift fun. So was the Acura. Ruined the third gear synchro in the Eclipse.

Speaking of which, is it normal to be a touch hard to go into third?

Rev hang exists below 2500rpms. Pause for 1-2 seconds after you release the throttle and press the clutch. If you wait for the engine to stop injecting fuel , there will be no rev hang. Anytime below 2500rs in first gear, there is always rev hang.

 

It does exist but not nearly as bad if you wind this piss out of this motor.

 

I'm getting more used to it, but yes I notice I am rev hanging the shit out of it, but I'm also not winding it out either.

Yeah I'm usually bringing 1st up to 3500rpm before shifting into 2nd, and from then on around 3000rpm seems to work well as a shift point to balance acceleration and noise. If I'm below 60mph at the top end I just leave it in 5th (unless I know I'm going to be cruising in it for a long time), over 60mph I go into 6th. Usually I'm trying to target 2000rpm or just above as my cruising revs. Also seems like I can skip from 3rd to 5th or 4th to 6th unless I'm really taking my time and going through all the gears purposefully.

As for rev hang, I haven't really noticed too much. Maybe just the way I shift and clutch, but it hasn't caused me any noticable issues. Once you've driven for a while your clutch foot will hopefully learn the grab point by muscle memory. I can quickly let the clutch pedal out to the grab point, pause for a split second or so and let the revs match and everything engage, then do a quick and steady lift off the rest of the way.

I'm trying to work on remembering to give it a tiny bit of accelerator pedal as I'm letting off the clutch as well as that seems to help with avoiding the clunky feel and noise you get when I think it is picking up the driveline slack and matching the engine speed to the rest of the driveline.

 

Anyone re-geared a 2nd gen manual with stock size- slightly larger tires? I live in the mountains of Idaho and rarely see speeds above 65. I’ve been wondering about re gearing a little bit lower to bring the rpms up and give better towing performance on mountain roads

 

I skip gears like that almost all the time too.

 

I see over the last page of threads you guys are having fun and taking it to higher rpms.

Any shifting over 3000 RPMS on mine and I get a buzz/vibration in my clutch pedal when I push it through the zone? It seems to match the speed of the engine and feels the same as if you were to ride the clutch when driving at speed.

Dealer, as predicted, says "operating as designed."

So...any of you have the same buzz? I know tonered told me he has a slight vib at higher RPM.

 

Giving a tiny bit of accelerator when letting off the clutch has always worked for me in all my vehicles for a smooth shift.

 

It doesnt wear out the synchros quicker does it?

I don't think there are any adverse affects to it, started doing in back when I bought my 08 Tacoma. Some late model GM Manuals had some kind weird block outs that forced you to skip gears for improved gas mileage.
