I know that studded is the best on ice, but still am very impressed with the performance of non studded ice tires, in the higher end one's they can still really grip on ice

This is my first truck. I've always run winter tires on my cars in the past. Tried my all terrains for the first snow this winter, bought dedicated winter tires the next day.

These trucks are light and need all the help they can get with traction.

Ok, I almost hate to admit this. Not only do I have a full (mounted and balanced) set of 16" Snow & Ice tires, I also have a full set of OEM 17" All Seasons on the TRD Sport wheels that came with the truck, plus a full set of 20" Summer tires for my Tacoma. I did this because the summer tires are not all seasons and far to wide (and the wheels too nice) to run in anything but May thru October up here. I then swap to the OEM All Seasons for a month and a half or so in the spring and fall, then to the Snow & Ice tires for December thru early March because anything more than that gets too warm and all you do is melt the tread off. Yea, I'm crazy.

I usually run snow & ice tires from the 1st of november to the 1st of april, they last me 4 winters. Then i have my 16" american ion alloys for warmer months that last about 5 years.

It's law here too on the highways, but usually there are a ton of commuter beaters spinning around on all-seasons.. I wouldn't care at all with Blizzaks and awd/4wd on both our rigs but when they spin out and pile up in the way everyone gets stuck.
