So my wife got me an 8' awning for my 2gen short bed with a shell 4 door Tacoma I'm trying to figure out how to mount the awning. I'm assuming the brackets should not mount to the cap and the bed due to flex. You guys think there would be an issue with cantilevering the awning over the cab by like 4'? I just don't want to f@&$ it up ya know?

If you don't want any overhang off the back I would consider something like a ladder rack that would mount under the cap and then mount awning to it.

You could probably split the difference like I do with my ladders, but I doubt you'd have much problem attaching to the cab and bed as there are only the 2 attach points, unless you get pretty gnarly when offroading
