I've never really dedicated time to shed hunting. I've found a few.. Mainly spikes and forks but never found any big ones. Would like to go to an elk shed hunt. Guess you can get 15 Bucks a lb For an elk shed.

im no expert by a longshot but we go where the deer Feed.and any food we put out is in the feeding areas. we use trail cams to get pics of bucks at food. then we hunt the fence rows and where the deer go in the fields. and backtrack trails from our feed sites.

Never really been shed hunting. Know some guys that use “shed traps” like chicken wire tied to trees and bait around it, but I feel like that may yank off some antlers before they’re 100% ready to come off. I know the Pedicles are pretty sensitive when it comes that time and I’d hate to have that happen.

Exactly!!!! Shed traps are illegal in Illinois. I have found them before, some guys use 3 fence posts and make a V shape and wire hog panels to them. Then they put corn in narrow part of the V, hoping the antlers come off while backing out. The problem is, if they’re not ready to shed they could get hung up and die. When I find them I knock them down.

Got my first deer, Sunday. It was a 90-pound whitetail doe taken with my 6.5 Grendel AR15. DRT. :D

I lucked-out and filled my doe tags not even 12 hours later with a 100-pound doe. Fantastic weekend for a first timer! I'm definitely hooked. :bananadance:

Nah. I dropped off my doe with the processor, so I'll get the meat in 7 days-ish. I told them to halve the backstraps and 50/50 grind everything in (ground beef-sized) and chili-sized.
