Sup guys, was scrolling through Craigslist and saw these headlights for pretty cheap. I know these probably have to be from ebay or Amazon. Was wondering if someone had replaced the halogen projectors to hid projectors? Figured it would be a little side project. Capture+_2020-01-04-06-56-16.jpg

Those aren’t a genuine projector. They are plastic molded ‘bowls’ in the housing and don’t have the very consistent shape needed like a true projector bulb. Also, the lights are not designed for the hid bulb placement and will result in a lot of scatter. I tried similar assemblies on a non Tacoma truck and ended up cutting up the housing to install a projector kit from The Retrofit Source.

if you want a good quality retrofit and you want to do it yourself i’d also say to go with the retrofit source to get quality parts. I tried to save some money with cheaper projectors and there isn’t anything more annoying than headlights that don’t aim properly no matter how much you try. also would suggest getting a pair of used OEM headlights to retrofit so you can work on them on the side and still have headlights in your truck to drive.

Yes, I know these are pretty bad projectors, but my question was if anybody has replaced the projectors inside a pre-made projector housing. I already retrofitted my own headlights and happen to have a spare set of morimoto d2s projectors. I figured replacing these projectors and have the drl bar would be pretty neat to have.

yes, I’ve done it. It’s not an easy task. The plastic formed bowl is in the way and you have to cut a lot of it out and epoxy in the morimotos. I used Anzo lights and the ‘projector’ lens was held in by an extra insert which required additional fabrication after removing it for the morimoto housings and shrouds.
