I just received my 2 letters as well regarding the frame issue and undercoating work. I live and work in Germany currently so this inspection and undercoating will have to wait until I'm back home for a visit in 2 months or so from now.

The reason Toyota doesn't fix the problems with the frames is because we keep buying these trucks. Stop buying Tacoma's and they will address it.
Unfortunately the other makes are all crap to except maybe Honda's Ridgeline.
This website should do more to get Toyota's attention.
There is enough of us out there that follow Tacoma World.

Got my letters Friday for my '15. Will definitely pass the frame test....a little disappointed about reports of the coating dripping, though.
Guess I'll know more when when I go in and ask...

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
They do an "intensive internal spray cleaning" of the entire frame. Then attach a forced hot air dryer and run that for 8 hours. Once the frame is clean and dry inside they spray a "waxy coating" inside the frame.

Sounds like fluid film. How is this a one-time application???

I got two letters on Friday. I had to call my dealership twice (second time with the actual letter in my hand to read from), anyways it’s in this upcoming Monday for the inspection, I’m also taking the two letter with me

Waiting for a letter for my 2015. Frame is in good shape but I'll get the coating to extend the warranty.

I sent my 2017 truck in for inspection. I already had the coating, but they added some plastic plugs.

Why doesn’t Toyota have the dealers coat the frames of new trucks in regions that salt their roads?

I just got back from my service department, and this is gonna flip you on your heads. I dropped my truck (2017) off for a the application, they arranged for a rental, got my rental and was on my way home. My service department (I only live about 20 minutes away) called me when I was about halfway home. They said that the application had already been applied at the factory, and I that all they had to do was put some plugs in the frame to seal moisture out. Turns out they had an outside tech from Toyota there today, training them on the process, and he showed them the indicators that it had been done. Apparently some vehicles were "tests" at the factory and got shipped without the plugs, but the application. Mine was made in Mexico. I really didn't care, because if there is a rust issue that falls under their warranty, I'm covered, but it was the damndest thing Ive seen lately. The local service tech said they were scrambling to reevaluate the ones they had already inspected (the out side tech had only been there that day), and evidently they had double applied some trucks. Just wanted to let all of y'all digest that.

Haha! That's about right. A wife's friend bought a 2016 JK, and then noticed rust all over the bottom. Dealer said it was normal! I tried to clean it up for her. Myself, I have a TJ that is parked over the winter due to the amount of road salt my area uses.

Just tagging along to follow the thread...

How about some happy non-rusty frame pics from a 2017 in a salt infested Canadian rust belt...

Glad I never trusted the new Tacoma 3rd Gen factory coatings...

    ACF-50,
Fluid Film and Rust Check Green for quick touch-ups in high spray areas.

Will still let them do the Service campaign on the truck but still will continue to do my annual ACF-50 fogging...

    :)

I think Toyota needs to fire it’s bean counters...

It’s 2020 and new Tacomas still don’t have...

    • Intermittent wipers standard on all models!
    • 4-wheel disc brakes!
    • Frames that actually last!

Is that an oil? What's the procedure to apply it? Just spray it? Thanks.

ACF-50 is a light oil that was developed for Aircraft anti-corrosion.
Really seeps into nooks and cranny's and unlike a lot of stuff does not destroy rubber, and works on protecting zinc and aluminum too.
Non-conductive so safe to spray on electronics and connectors.
I just use an undercoating gun or a cheap paint sprayer,
but "fog" it on. If it drips you're wasting it.
Does not matter if you get it on your exhaust.Paint, plastics, bushings.
Just don't get it on your door sill gaskets, on your brake friction surfaces or on your engine pulley's and belts. (yes you can spray your whole engine compartment too with this stuff safely).
Fluid Film gets a light coat in the wheel wells, front of the rear diff, and front of the control arms. It is messy and smells like sheep but it handles water spray really well. Lol just don't get it on your exhaust or you'll have to keep your windows up for a day or two...
