Hey yall I got the basic 08 4 cylinder I've recently put about 3500 bucks into it since i got it, I'm wondering now if I should get a camper shell and would it look good. Also what site could I find people that sell camper shells for my truck or do you recommend anybody that sells them.
    Thanks
    Logan

Camper shells are expensive to ship. Where are you located?
I've seen many shells for sale here on TW but I don't know if any are for sale near you.

You have a single cab - Remember that camper shells from double cabs/access cabs will not sit properly on your truck. The front of the shell has more curvature. It will still fit, but you will rub either the third brake light or the paint coming down from your roof to back window.

Shells are awesome. I love buying them - Best of luck on your search. Be prepared to spend anywhere from $200-1000.

Yea that's what I figured. Mine actually was a fleet truck and had a camper shell on it already but it was all banged up. So the guy I bought it from took it off.

I'd go back to that guy, he might give it to you for free. If not, offer him a couple of hundred bucks. Fix whatever needs fixing, it would be cheaper than getting another cap.

If you are looking for a new one, try snug top, leer and the rest. See if you can find a dealer in your area from the manufacturer website.

It took me a while but I found my cap on Craigslist for $300. I also have a reg cab but the cap I have is for an extended cab. Doesn't line up perfect but works great and can't beat the price.

I think the 2cnd Generation Tacomas look great with a camper shell. Pictured is my 2013. The ARE shell came with my truck, when I bought it (used). If you don't want to spend the $$$ for a new one, and you're not in a great hurry, look for a used 73" long bed topper on Craigslist. If you don't mind traveling a bit to buy one, you'll find one on there - probably a white one, too.

If you're not hauling stuff, a shell adds a lot of functionality to a truck. Buying used, might take some time and research but you'll save money. Might have have it painted. New shells, like Leer, SnugTop and ARE, are nice, but with installation, molding and miscellaneous hardware and electrical, it will be over $2K.

Personally, I would prefer the sportier utilitarian look of a softopper on a tacoma. Unless you are set on a hard shell, the softopper will save quite a bit of weight for your 4 banger, still good for camping, and fold forward to have full bed access for hauling.
