    Morning all.

    So ill cut to the chase. First, my question is if I have a manual 5vz-fe and want to switch blocks if I find one for the right price. Does the new one have to come off a manual transmission as well. And I have a busted connecting rod and am on an incredibly tight budget. What's the cheapest fix for me here.

    I considered a junk yard pull. Which is where the first question comes in. I mean there are risks to what I'd be uncovering. But the same goes with a crate motor that wont have me living out of the truck. Lol

    A block has no clue which transmission might end up behind it!!

    they are all drilled for the pilot bearing As far as the ones I have seen 1ST generations .

    3ed generations I can`t say for sure

    You just need your engine harness on the good engine

    Ok that's what I thought also. I wasnt sure if it was set up differently for the transfer case but good to know. Now would it be more cost effective to pull the yard block and swap everything on the old motor over or should i pull the block and repair the connecting rod. Or grab one of those JDM crate motors

    That is a hard call to make.

    If you pull the engine pull it apart only to discover that cylinder is so scored as to not be saved .

    Looking at tight budget I would say go good running used engine.

    Pulling your engine who knows what you might find .

    What caused the rod to break how much damage was done ??

    Your not going to know till things are all apart and inspected .

    See I've pulled it apart once to repair a bent valve which I thought was the problem. Reassembled and still have no compression. Its gotta be connecting rod or a seal. Either way the block has to be pulled.
