    Hi All,

relatively new poster here, but have really enjoyed these forums.

recently bought my 2019 Pro as I couldn’t pass up a great deal (2020s we’re already on lots). Love the truck! It’s been great and have already had a chance to take it off-road at Adventure Falls in Marble Falls, TX.

unfortunately my radio head unit went completely out 2 weeks after purchase. 1 month later and my local dealer still doesn’t have a replacement... not too a big deal, just a minor nuisance not having radio/Bluetooth. Meanwhile I developed a power steering rack leak (fluid coming out the dust boot by the input shaft). Took it to the dealer today, and after the tech had a chance to inspect it, he agreed it will need a new rack. However I lost all confidence when he was determined to argue that the AT was an 8 speed...

My truck has a tendency to hold 4th gear for about a minute after cresting hills. I would like to see if they can address this tendency but at this point have no confidence.

again, I love the truck but I am really unimpressed with my dealer. Anyone else have a similar experience with their dealer??

If you want to change the tune of the truck then get ovtune. Otherwise it's normal for it to go into 4th,instead of 5th and 6th which are OD.

Also all dealers are scum bags and should not be trusted.

    Welcome to TW!

Sucks to hear that man. I had horrible experience with my dealer as well. The worst customer service i have had. From my experience they dont care and just lie to your face. I wouldnt trust a word those clowns say.

    Good luck!

Verify the latest Transmission TSB has been done! Never use cruise in hill type areas and if you wanna get fancy S-Mode/ETC it early for “learning”!

Congrats on your purchase. If unhappy with the dealer, I would research another. Best of luck.

Good points on the latest tsb. I did a lot of research through the threads and it doesn’t seem there is a consensus on whether a tsb is still outstanding for 2019.

and don’t get me wrong, I didn’t start this thread to complain about the tranny.. it really doesn’t bother me much. I guess more just venting frustration about the dealer. It just seems like the techs would do a little basic research on the vehicle they’re servicing, such as the type of tranny. I’m sure there are a ton of great techs out there. Perhaps I just got the one

This is why dealers are for warranty work only, well reviewed independent shops are light years better for work done outside of warranty.

I wouldn't worry if the tech has his facts wrong about the trans, as long as they're capable of replacing the steering rack under warranty then let them...if they screw up its still on them to fix it under warranty.

I talk to friends sometimes that seem to think the dealership knows their brand of vehicle better than any other shop could, but that's a grave misunderstanding IMO. Not to mention you get charged double or more on everything not covered by warranty.

matter of fact, one of the vehicles I traded in for the taco and wife’s 4Runner was a Gt350R. Took it to the ford dealer 4 times for an a/c leak that was never fixed... ended up trading it in as is haha (I disclosed the issue of course)

4x? That sounds like a lemon law buyback from Ford.

So you're unimpressed and your confidence is shaken because the dealer tech doesn't know the exact specs of the transmission.

If you want to lose confidence re-visit the 80-90's when the Mopar tech could not only tell you the exact number of speeds, but the method of failure and long it would take to swap.

So few of these transmissions in the Tacoma have failed that I wouldn't expect them to know

Understand the pain and I hope everything gets addressed.
My "best" experience with the dealer
I go to pick it up a couple years back after service...I will be be (E) they will be (C)
    (C)"Alright, here's a printout of everything"
(E)"It says here you checked the rear drums and adjusted them as necessary?"
    (C)"Yes they did"
(E)"Looks like I was charged for this"
    (C)"Yes it was..".(points out price)
(E)"I have rear disc brakes, so what did they adjust and how?"
    (C)"......"
    awww, good times.

The Aisin manufactured AC60F 6-speed tranny used in the Tacoma is extremely robust. I’ll take this over a 10-speed transmission with more parts and complexity.

Aww but did they change out your tires’ summer air for winter air when they had the wheels off?
