I just changed my grill and my collision sensor is saying that the it is dirty and needs to be cleaned off. It doesn't happen all the time. It takes it a few miles before it turns on, but this morning I was driving and it turned off and my cruise control worked for about 10 miles. I turned off my cruise because I was now in town, and the collision sensor turned back on and I was unable to use my cruise control. This is day 3 of me changing out my grill. I read somewhere that someone said it takes 3-4 days before the sensor can adapt and re-calibrate itself to the new grill. That true?

Did you install a Pro grill? If so, did you install the garnish?

Mine did the same thing before to, everyday would be on and annoys the shit outta the wife. Dealer is gonna give you a hard time and want to tell you all this bullshit and try to disable all of your adaptive cruise to pre collision stuff. What it is was when it’s on the stock grill the tss sits higher on the grill and on the trd pro grill it sits at the bottom of it so the alignment is off. Someone from here fix that with putting two small washers in between the top of the bolts that you screw the tss onto and fix the problem. I did that to and problem goes away to.

Sits higher means nothing. I changed out my stock grill for a factory pro and factory garnish and have 0 problems. Height should mean nothing. Things in front of your truck are all different sizes. Box trucks, corollas, Smart cars etc. So a few inches higher or lower should make no difference. Did you use OEM or aftermarket?

It does not self adapt, there is no 3 day rule. It has to be re-calibrated to the new height if you want 100% function.

I have the aftermarket garnish on. Drive about 5k miles and still won’t go away. Try everything everyone said to do except take it in Toyota to have it recalibrate it. But after putting two small washers so the garnish tilts a little upward problem solve nothing come back on for last 4K miles.

I had this problem with an aftermarket garnish after installing a pro grille. When I put in an OEM garnish the problem went away. Another note: you can override the adaptive cruise control by holding down the cruise button until the emblem switches to the "normal" cruise control emblem. This allows you to use cruise control even while the tss sensor isn't working.

It's not a free fix I just had 10k oil change and instantly had issues with sensor. Put the pro grill on week after getting the truck with factory cover. Now the dealer giving me Crap because I didn't buy grill them and installed my self. So as of today they are waiting for response from toyota to see if the new sensor will work with the pro grill. They are saying the pro grill takes different sensor. So choice is put factory grill back on or spend $500 for sensor plus calibration. So I'll put stock grill on to shut them up and then I might try the washer fix later. Was going to 3" lift and have the parts but they giving Crap on that too, unless I pay them to install. I said I'd never own new car and so far my local dealer making wish I never did. Love tacoma always wanted one even back in the 90's.
