CBI T3 front bumper, hoops or no hoops?

Discussion in '3rd Gen. Tacomas (2016-2023)' started by jschwerdtfeger, Nov 26, 2018.

Which CBI T3 front bumper would you go with?

  1. No hoop

  2. Hull coverage

  3. Screw TSS and go with the grill hoop

I used an angle grinder and a Sawzall to cut deeper near the wheel well. After cutting I just picked off burs and gave a quick once over with the grinder. My truck is black so I didn't have to worry about it so much.

This may help with clean looking lines and will also fill the gap. I haven't ordered yet but I probably will at some point https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00NL40XQI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_NxcaCbTY5GH2E

Exactly what I was thinking of using to hide the cut. Thanks for posting the link!

After seeing the pictures on the first page I'm going to be ordering the full hoops. Originally I wanted the center grill hoop but it might mess with the sensor.

I already bought a winch, led lightbar, skids, and sliders as they were all on sale. I didn't buy the bumper because CBI wasn't offering any discounts for the T3. Hoping they have something for the end of the year so I can snag one up.

Where did you buy the bumper from? I found it on AlphaDirtoffroad.com with free shipping and a great price but it seems too good to be true. Has anyone ordered from them? I sent them an email and they did respond saying that they offer free shipping on all CBI products.

My personal opinion - for any front bumper I would go with the full hoop version on my truck. I want the maximum possible front end protection, for grill and headlight/corner area of the hood and front end. That is why I personally want an after market bumper, not so much for the winch capability. Others may have different requirements and therefore prefer a different bumper style.

Bought the full hoops today. ETA is end of February. End of January for the sliders and the skids.

I have run an ARB on my 2001 for over 150k miles and have hit several deer with it. It performed well the first few direct hits until its 3rd impact and the doe's neck hooked on the passenger loop and whipped the body into the passenger door and dented the living hell out of it while also destroying passenger headlight. The truck had no comprehensive insurance.

But who needs deer protection on our $37.000 trucks, they are fully insured. In a bumper I am looking for the ability to mount a winch, approach angle, shackle access and when you run the battery out the night before listening to widespread panic, try a clutch start in the morning only to hit the door lock when first exiting and the truck is rolling downhill and slams into a pinion pine . Just ordered my no loop T3 in aluminum and warn 8k winch to match my CBI steel full skid plate (180 lbs ).

180lbs just for the skids or is that the bumper + skids + winch?

    I'm digging the Full Hoop!!!

With the CBI T3. What size light bar do you need to use? And am I able to re-use my BD light pods?

Here's our truck with a aluminium T3 with low hoop, the TSS works fine but as I'm old school I have it turned off. Like the build quality

Your TSS won't be impacted if you stick with the stock grille. You go with something else, than you're on a gamble. I have an 18 with the CBI mid high clearance and haven't had any issues. Toyota even calibrated it for the recall they had. NBD.

Yup. Nice thing is that the light securely mounts behind the bumper so it's not easy to swipe my Baja Designs S8
