My girlfriend and I are planning a trip out to CO (from Va). We went to the TacomaWorld event in Moab in 2015 and loved that, now we want to see the high mountains instead of the desert.

1st question: Comms, what's the common thing to have? CB or HAM? I have a CB that I'll be installing in the trail truck and plan to buy a hand held HAM for emergencies but don have an operators license. Just curious as to what y'all typically use?

2nd: Running an '87 4runner, about a 3 inch lift, full skids, sliders, front and rear bumpers, currently open diffs. I may have it fully caged by the time we leave not sure. Are lockers a MUST for the harder trails? Would an auto locker pass in a pinch. I plan to have air lockers eventually but hopefully don't have to spend that money yet

Also.. I want to run some more technical trails and really test myself and the truck but would like suggestions on the more scenic stuff too as that's what my girl is really going for
