I want to be prepared to spend a few a days remote. My list is based on the 10 essentials (google it) adapted to vehicle supported travel.

I discovered kind of by accident that 1 liter Evian water bottles fit perfectly in the of the Tacoma door pockets so I keep 6 to 8 liters in the truck doors plus another one or a water bottle in the outer pockets of my pack. I carry a couple of SOL brand emergency blankets and paracord so I can wrap up in them or improvise a shelter if needed but I am assuming I will have access to the truck as shelter so I don't carry a tent. All this plus my laptop and hand held Ham radio fits in a day pack so it's with me at all times. I vacuum pack like items to keep them dry and protected and it also allows things to pack more compactly.

I carry additional supplies in the bed of the truck in a Plano wheeled storage box. It's pretty water resistant but its under the Tonneau cover so its pretty safe there. The supplies elaborate on the 10 essentials for comfort and making it capable to spend more time remote. I carry a 4 day Mountain House bucket of freeze dried food plus a folding cooking pot and an insulating sleeve that the food pouches fit into that keeps it hot while it re-hydrates (all in the bucket). I can also use this bucket for collecting water or even a toilet if needed.

Freeze dried food requires boiling water so I carry a wood burning Bio-lite stove that can also charge electronics. I lined the bottom of the Plano box with scrap wood so I have dry wood to at least get the stove going. Here in the PNW one can usually find wood but its often wet so having a fire starter of some sort is a good idea. I also have some Boy Scout egg carton/sawdust/paraffin firestarters in a tin can that could also be used as a pot. There is a hatchet and machete for wood gathering as well.

I have a larger tarp, a hank of rope and some more paracord to improvise a larger shelter if needed. Instead of a sleeping bag I carry fleece snow pants and a waterproof nylon backed fleece blanket for warmth. I tossed in some heavy duty contractor strength plastic bags that I can wear for rain gear and/or stick my lower half into for shelter.

Last but not least is the all important toilet paper and a GI surplus folding shovel for obvious reasons. I carry a larger axe and shovel as well as a hi-lift jack in the bed but not in the box. during fire season I toss in a pulaski.

In the winter I have a small Rubbermade tote that has chains, heavy rain gear and gloves to pull on and a small tarp to lay on to put on the chains. At my wife's suggestion I also have a bag of kitty litter that actually works pretty well to get a bit of traction on ice.

I have one of those storage boxes too and just an FYI if you get some weather stripping from HD or Lowe's you can fit it in the channel on the lid and make it pretty much water tight.

Large industrial (public bathroom style) soft white paper towel roll. Soft enough to be used for anything in a pinch.

Hammer, breaker bar with lug size socket, screwdriver assortment, medium and large adjustable wrenches, vise grips (regular and needle nose), duct tape, kneadable epoxy stick, trash bags, real bungee cords, tie downs, paracord, small tarp, those red plastic extended load flags from Home Depot and a few electrical staples to put them on the end of any lumber.

I’m sure there is something else, but if I can’t get somewhere with that stuff, I won’t feel bad calling roadside.

edit: add traffic vest and the noco boost (which is more to help others and not have to risk my electrical system).

Went out and did some night wheeling over the weekend in my new truck. Came across two sidebysides that flipped off the trail within 20 minutes of one another. Luckily i just received my dlink hitch last week and was able to tow them both out. Whats scary is that these are mountain trails (lake pleasant) and just a couple mins up the trail theres nothing but mountainous drops of 100+ft

The lock it came with is top quality along with the hitch and dlink. I like how the dlink uses a nut and bolt instead of the convention bolt, less of a chance a meth head will steal it as theyll need tools to do so
