A little of this and a little of that.
Each inning has a top half and a bottom half, 3 outs each.

    Agree!

    Exactly!

I too am a traditionalist... but sometimes you have to allow for some evolution.

Like it says in the article... all sports adjust to ever changing conditions. And let's be honest... this new generation has very short attention spans... that's why they keep working to speed it up a little bit. I have to admit... the switching of pitchers after every batter does tend to annoy me at times. And I dont really think it will change the overall strategy of the game.

    I'm for it.

Rivalries are very serious. I was running into a gas station yesterday in the pouring rain and asked a guy to hold the door for me... he seen my Gator hat and slammed it on me... he was an FSU fan.

If they even go to games they'll just be looking down at their phones anyway so why change the game ?

Three outs is one half of an inning. So either you face three batters, or get three outs. I thought it was worded weird at first too.

The game could still go long if the reliever gets shelled. He might face three batters and not get a single out. He faced three, so he can be relieved. Next pitcher is now faced with the same situation. Inning could still linger on. The Rule makes no sense until September call ups. With a 25 man roster until then, a manager can only make so many changes before he runs out of pitchers.

not exactly... the rule has no mention of outs. sure, if you get 3 outs you’ve already faced 3 batters — no need to be redundant.

what it says is you finish the inning. a pitcher could come in with 2 outs and face just one batter; he records the third out. the inning is over. he can then be replaced for the next inning (he does not need to start the following inning to face a minimum 3 batters).

So . . . what does all this have to do with keeping batters in the batter's box? Though this sport has always been about bats, gloves, and balls, I have always believed that batters do not need to adjust their batting gloves and balls after each pitch. You would be amazed at how much game time is wasted watching batters doing this activity . . . I mean, if we want to speed up the game? 30 secs x 4 pitch average x 27? Almost an hour . . .

    :notsure:

There is already a Rule that is supposed to keep batters in the box. It's up to the umpires to enforce that.

Yeah, I know. My first sentence was supposed to read that way. I think fans would be shocked at how much time is wasted between each pitch.
