2006 headlamp assembly

I recently needed to replace a headlight bulb in a 2006 Tacoma. There is a small wire clip, when attempting to remove a piece of the plastic shroud where the wire clip rest broke off. At this point I assume I have to replace the entire headlamp assembly. Can anyone verify for me that my assumption is accurate. For the want of a small sliver of plastic I think I am stuck replacing the entire assembly. Am I correct?

Put a couple little Phillips screws right into the plastic between the edge of the bulb and the housing

Be gentle so it doesnt crack to much, might need to remove the housing for better access

Housing is already damaged so its worth a shot

 

The square block has a round hole in it. Some TW members have put a screw in the hole with a washer to hold down the clip.

 

Here it is. I guess maybe you have to drill a hole for the screw.

The reason I originally asked for pics is that sometimes - but not very often - the mount doesn't actually break. The clip just falls out. Say for instance 1,650 miles from home in a cold hotel parking lot when I told the wife it would take me "5 minutes" to change a burned out passenger side headlight bulb. Yea, even just the clip is a mother to put back in when your hands are just short of frostbite.

 

Well just be glad you didn't lose it forever because if you want to buy just the clip....well I'll let you look at the ad (20% off!)

It's even worse when you think of how many times I've swapped out bulbs. Other than @crashnburn80, I doubt anybody has as much time invested in swapping bulbs in search of better lighting than me. That's why I was so pissed off that I couldn't get the damn clip back in. Of course it's a lot easier when your fingers actually bend ...

 

Just did a bulb on my cuz's car.
Twist and remove
Align plastic tabs on new bulb
Push in and twist
9006 hb4 bulb

Hate that stupid metal clip on our bulbs!
