Found my first intact whitetail shed ever this evening. Found an old tine once that got torn up in an ag field but somehow I found 3 elk sheds (biggest was 144”ish) before a whitetail antler. Guess it helped I worked as a backpacking guide in NM and shows something about the importance of just covering ground when finding sheds.

Pretty good deer for this area of public in MS. I think I have pics of this deer last year. Looks like he lost quite the chunk of bone with it but my buddy who knows more than I ever will says he will be fine. 1ED1D6DA-5860-45F3-92E4-75B0DE0D961E.jpg

That was either an epic fight or it died somewhere. They can survive but prob wont grow an antler there

That is what I figured but who knows. Dropped way early I feel for Mississippi looked around for a dead deer or the match and didn’t see anything after searching 150ish yds every direction. The guy I talked with was the director of the department of wildlife and fisheries for the state and currently does research on whitetails so I figure if anyone would know well it would be him.

Whats the opposite side of that look like? If it was truly a shed it would have a coarse coral like structure. If it was broke off it might be smooth like inside of the skull

define toy coarse and nothing really looks like a broken bone that is supposed to be solid but it is so big I feel like it has to be something that shouldn’t have come off.

It also has some inconsistencies around the base and a second spot where a little nun came through the skin

yeah doesnt look normal but not a broke skull piece. Maybe it was sick? Or lacking some nutrients?

Yea he said they will look like this when they get really stressed.

It is possible but I bet it was dropped very recently. It still had hair on it and it was in the middle of a bulldozed fire road they just ran with a dozer a week ago.

She didn’t put peppers or onions, they give me heartburn. The green you see in it is peppers in the white cheese she used. It’s a little warm but not much and doesn’t bother me, assuming they’re jalapeños.

Since Cole's first deer was a button head and we couldn't mount anything I ordered him one of these engraved plaques. A friend told me about it, his son gave him one for Christmas. It'll be something for him to remember his first deer by.

Granddad passed down a special rifle to me, and I picked it up today. Winchester Model 94 in 30-30 manufactured in 1960. Such a special rifle. He bought it in the 70s to hunt the Maine woods and was never able to connect with a deer using this gun. So he said the only stipulation of me getting the gun is that I take a deer with it. I think I can make that happen
