    2005 Toyota Tacoma Sport
    N/A
Hey there group. I'm new to the forum but hope to utilize often in the future. I bought a 2005 Tacoma sport this summer and have loved it. It is super clean and has been in California for most of its life (I live in Northwest Ohio). This is my first truck but have owned many Toyotas since the 1980's so was pretty comfortable with buying a higher mileage Tacoma (160,000 miles when bought). I bought the truck just after the local Toyota dealership had replaced the original frame (under a recall) so knew that most of the lines would have been replaced.

I discovered this forum as recently I have had a couple warning lights go off. About a month ago the check engine light went on. I went to O'Reiley and they checked the codes. One code indicated an issue with the transmission. Sorry I can't remember the exact vague wording at this time. Before I could do anything further about the check engine light it went off on its own. Given that the transmission is a closed system I just decided to wait and see if it came back on. I should mention that the truck has been shifting smoothly and drives great. Yesterday though I had the "A/T tran heat" light come on and the truck shut down. Prior to it shutting down I had driven the truck about 8 blocks and never went over 35 miles over. It was very rainy that day and I had gone through a puddle that threw water up over the windshield (not sure if relevant but want to give all the details). After the puddle I drove a few more blocks. I parked the truck and left it running while I got my mail. When I got back into the truck the engine had shut off and that is when I noted both the check engine light and A/T Tran Heat light had come on. I tried to restart the truck but it would not turn over. It did not try to even crank so I didn't think it was a battery issue. I ended up pushing the truck into the drive way and tried to start it after a Google search. Over 30 minutes later it still would not turn over.

The next day when I went back to the truck and tried it again. It started right up and there are no warning lights on at all. I have not driven it yet as don't really want to get stranded. I have a friend who is going to run for codes but that hasn't happened yet. So any insights or suggestions are appreciated.

    Too few to list.
Welcome to the site. @gearcruncher always has good advise when it comes to our transmission. I'm sure he'll chime on sooner or later. First thing I would do is pull the code then check transmission fluid level and condition.

    Welcome aboard!
We need the actual codes to diagnose them.
The no start after driving through the puddle sounds like an electrical connection got wet, and then after it sat overnight and dried out, was resolved.
It wouldn't hurt to look around the starter and battery for bad connections, connections that aren't correctly weatherproofed, etc.

Sounds more like a primary ignition problem rather than anything with the transmission . When the truck stalls , its not uncommon for the high temp light and the check engine light to illuminate .
I think most of your issues are going to lead back to the frame replacement . During a frame replacement , all electrical connections are disconnected and re-connected . If the the truck stalled from being wet , you can almost guarantee you will be seeing a bunch of codes . There are also a lot of service bulletins(TSB,s)for this first year of Tacoma that deal with the wiring .
I guess we will know better after you post the codes

Thanks! Hoping to find some help, trying to find a part number for the Needle bearing in the hub of a 2000 Tacoma 4x4. Had one fail and can't seem to find one. Dealer says over the phone that it comes in the hub, quite pricey. I'm hoping to buy just the bearing. Thanks for any help!
