My 2018 Toyota Tacoma. It is a nice ride that could be much more reliable. I bought it with 7k kilometers and a non-dealer tow package and command start. Newer Tacomas have some unnecessary and highly annoying features such as constant binging when your door is open - even after turning off the motor. Another feature is having to constantly unlock your passenger doors when de-boarding and re-boarding. I immediately replaced the terrible stock tires and windshield wipers. Why does Toyota source terrible parts like this? Having loved and owned a 2004 Tacoma, I can safely say that the build quality has decreased (i.e. new = plastic bumpers) and Toyota struggles with a useless navigation system and substandard electronics/software overall. A local (Birchwood) Toyota dealership did a software update (under warranty). Now the truck’s electronics system has gone haywire including the lane departure alert, cruise control and collision detection. This dealer blames the command start and asked for $500 to un-install it. I researched the issue with a command start installer and web forums. They indicate that the dealer is dishonest and seeking easy money/repair charges. Dealers actually install 3rd party command starts themselves! The current plan for these electronic/software issues is for me to make persistent appointment bookings at the Birchwood dealership in order to create greater appreciation of my concerns. Any other advice?
