I have wifi at home and work and pretty much wherever I shop so that's how I get data to check emails and TW on the go. I really only use my phone to text and make calls and that's only a couple days a month.

Pay 43 and change a month for 2 lines with republic wireless. Unlimited talk and text and 1gb each for data. You can buy more data for 5 bucks a gb if you need more. My wife and I have Wifi at home and work and try to use free wifi when we go places. I don't usually ever use my whole data allotment but my wife will generally burn through hers super quick.

    Question regarding cell phones.....
I am with at&t, my phone needs replaced. I would rather not go to the at&t store to get it replaced. If I purchase a unlocked phone, can I just put the sim chip from mine into the new one and be good to go, or am I going to have go pay a activation fee?

Yes just pull the SIM card and put in new phone.

    We're on AT&T prepaid - $93 a month total for 3 lines with 8 GB each line.

wife and I use google fi for our cell phones. Have had no issues. Now that both phones are paid off we pay about 90/month and thats with an average usage of 4gig/month of data.

I tried AT&T, Verizon, Sprint & then switched back & forth between these for a few years. Always ended up paying about $100/month. Went on a road trip from Austin to Anchorage with 2 buds, we all had different carriers at the time. I had Sprint, I had cover age about 20% of the entire trip, the AT&T guy had coverage about 40% of the time, the Verizon guy had coverage about 70% of the time.
Switched to Verizon the next time change time came around..
That's the contiguous though, you may not need all that on the island.

We bought 2 Samsung J7s outright fora few years ago for 200 bucks each. We have all unlimited through t mobile. With a veteran discount we pay 85 bucks a month total.

Also had really good luck with cricket at one point. I am super cheap when it comes to phone stuff. I think most people want iPhones and higher end androids to be trendy and fashionable. 90% of people don't utilize the features or power and could get away with a much cheaper phone.

I personally think that cell phone service and the bill which reflects such service is a subjective topic. Over the years I have found the majority of carriers (in my area) to be garbage all around. It doesn't matter who you go with at least in my general region, so for most situations, I would say, determine what your specific needs and intended usages will be out of cell phone service and then shop from there. If you are all about mobile data and use your hotspot a lot, X carrier may have better data coverage then X carrier in your geographical area, and they may not throttle you after using X amount of data like X carrier may. You may pay let's say $5 more per month, but your overall satisfaction with the service and it's performance will be much higher than if you went with X carrier which throttles the hell out of you after using X amount of data and their general coverage is notably less than the others service.

Just my personal viewpoint on things.

Thats a solid point as I lived out in the boonies one time and sprint or t mobile would have zero reception out there but with Verizon I could get a few bars. Was annoying since I wouldn't get work calls or anything

true, it all depends on what your looking for out of the service too, if its basic send/receive calls voicemail,Emails, and very minium browser usage then you can really get a great deal on plans thru certain carriers.

Big fan of the walmart brand: Straight Talk. We had great service all over the US. Only 40 bucks/month unlimited data and bring your own phone. Can't complain about that.
