Long-bed vs Short-bed

I bought a double cab so that I could haul around my friends and their dogs. My 1992 Toyota Xtra Cab was super-tight, and trying to shove a big lab & another adult into that area was awful.

But I bought the long bed for ME, so that I can sleep in the back when I go camping. Plus, with my A.R.E. MX canopy (with the taller ceiling) I can sit up in comfort, and have plenty of extra headroom.

So to get the double cab AND long bed, I grudgingly had to accept the automatic transmission.

If they offered a medium bed it would be perfect.

 

Another great looking truck! I had a hard time deciding between black and MGM...

 

I like the way the long bed versions look. IMO, the short beds are nothing but a wheelbarrow with four tires.

 

I’ll never understand why contractors build garages so small. I made sure mine was big enough. I finished part of it into 2 bedrooms and a full bath , yes finished out part of the garage. I still have room for a work area, 2 vehicles, 2 Harley’s and a dirtbike. All lawn equipment is also in its own storage closet built into the garage. Still tons of room to walk around and work.

 

Couldn’t agree more, a 5.5’ bed would look perfect on these trucks.

I believe Ford previously offered their extended cab trucks with a 5.5’, 6.5’, or 8’ beds.

 

Luckily I just keep my old war horse. 1999 S10 4X2 with 6ft bed and 5 speed manual. 263k miles and runs perfect. 11 years I’ve kept the old ‘get er done’ truck. I did move a 75 inch flat screen in my Taco with no issue though.

I have a '16 DCSB but want to trade for '20 LB so I can sleep in the back of it. I'm going to put a camper cover on it.

Trying to decide between Access Cab or Double Cab.

Is the total length of an Access Cab long bed equal to a DCLB? Seems like it would be less by a few inches. I may go with Access Cab due to parking in my garage if it is shorter. I don't really need a double cab.

Also which one looks better IYO?

 

LBs are ugly IMO, but I still recently traded in my SB for the LB to the left. If you need to haul more stuff than the SB holds, well . . . its a truck not a girlfriend

 

Pickup trucks have beds.

Minivans have doors.

Pick one.

Short bed 4 door trucks are just dumb. And please, no whining about your kids and dogs comfort. They would be more comfortable in a Ridgeline.
