Hopeing to get some ideas, or answers about installing a back up camera.

My Tacoma is a Base model, but is pre-wired for all the goodies...

I recently added OEM fog lights that I bought second hand for next to nothing.

My radio is tempermental and will shut off randomly, or not adjust the volume when turning the volume knob, and not change the station after selecting a new station.

Long story short, I am upgrading the stereo with an after market Pioneer double din deck capable of adding a back up camera to.

I checked the tailgate to confirm wiring for the camera, and will asssume that the wiring for the rear view mirror is in the headliner.

I'm wondering if anyone has used the connection in the tailgate and connected it to an aftermarket deck?

My other thought is to install the camera, and then run the cable through the harness and wiring run that is already there and into the the deck.

Just curious to hear what others have done...

    Thanks!!

OEM cameras use 6vDC and most aftermarket ones are "12vDC". That means aftermarket ones are connected to a 12v power source (as well as ground and an RCA video plug) and stepped down either in their harness (like the Pioneer ND BC6) or actually at the camera head. So, IF you do have OEM camera wiring, and camera housing in your tailgate handle, the power supplied will be 6vDC, and would be problematic for after market radio. I believe your power source for your camera harness starts at the upper RH corner of your fuse box. There was an earlier post while I was contemplating using an OEM camera.
My truck is a 2006, so no possibility of factory camera wiring that I could check or access.

iDat-aLink Maestro does make a controller/harness that can support an OEM camera natively. The Maestro T01 harness definitely has a plug(s) extension to go to OEM cameras. It was easier for me, with no factory wiring, to use an aftermarket radio (actually 2 for front/rear).

I'm not all up to speed, as I am just updating my aftermarket HU to a Pioneer W8200NEX with Maestro Rr and TO1, but I was pleased to see the support for OEM camera in the TO1 harness -- just not a great idea in my case.
