265/70r17’s or 245/75r16’s?

Just bought an 07 prerunner, completely stock. Ordered some of the newer matte black trd 17” wheels and 265/70r17 tires. Diameter and width-wise the tires are less than an inch larger in both directions, but from what I’ve read there is still a possibility of the wheels rubbing. Can Somebody with the same setup (no lift) give me some more confidence that they aren’t going to rub? Or should I play it safe and just stick with 245/75r16’s.

    Thanks

I've been using 265/75/16's for years (virtually the same overall size as 265/70/17) without any issues. Both 265/75/16 and 265/70/17 are pretty common sizes among guys here and any reported issues are rare and minor. It MIGHT be possible with SOME tires. Even though they have the same size stamped on the tire there are minor size differences between manufacturers. If you avoid really aggressive mud tires in an E rating I don't see a problem.

You should be fine with the 17’s.
Same as a 265/75/16 and having a Toyota wheel with stock bs helps.
I had to heat and push in the little square chunks on the front mud flaps.
I didn’t want to not run flaps due to the wheels can sling stones seeing how they are sticking out more.

Not going with mud tires, I got Pirelli scorpion at’s. Didn’t want to be a too much of a poser since I won’t take it off road. They still have a nice look though. And V6.

Running 265/70/17, access cab, 4 banger, 4x4, 5spd. Any loss of power is minimal compared to the stock 245/75/16. You'll be fine.

I had an 07 TRD DCSB 4X4 that my daughter still drives. It has 265/70-17 Michelins on it and never had any problems. Best of luck

I have a 2012 TRD Offroad, stock suspension with Falken Wildpeak 265/70R17 and Toyota TRD wheels. There was some rubbing while cranking the wheel sharply on the small, forward of front tire "mud flap" piece (not sure what this part is called but its not the regular behind the tire mud flap). I removed this "mini" forward mud flap piece and now there are no issues/rubbing. I could have left this piece on and it would have been fine but I chose to remove it.

I have a 2013 TRD Sport DC 4x4, stock suspension with Falken Wildpeak 265/70R17 and Toyota TRD wheels. I had rubbing on the small front flaps (removed) and still have rubbing on the stock mud flaps. I’ve taken a flappy wheel grinder to the mud flaps, but still get rub on front left turning and Under compression, and need to grind more off. I think it has to do with alignment or something, so I might try that first.

IMO 265/70-17 or 265/75-16 is the best tire size for a stock Tacoma, you only need to remove the small front mud flap assuming your alignment is in spec. Wheel spacers or excessive backspacing could cause issue though. The TRD SEMA wheels should work very wheel with the 265 tire sizes.

Stock 2007 dcsb with 265/70/17 Falken Wildpeaks. Had to remove front mud flaps do to rubbing. Kinda wish I would have went with 265/65/17s due to no rubbing with them before.
