Well, I just heard back from Motegi. The MR149 in 16x8 will NOT clear the Tacoma caliper. Bummer. I then asked about the MR150 but I am assuming it is also a no-go. Might end up with Method 702 in 16x8?

Well, went for the new Method 702 in 16x8, 0mm offset. They fit perfectly, are hub-centric and have lots of clearance for the front calipers. The Method 702 weigh just about the same as the 16x7 OEM TRD OR wheels so don't expect any big hit to mpg or overall feel. Went with 265/70-16 Continental TerrainContact A/T so no rubbing. Overall weight of new wheel/tire package is 64.5lbs according to published specs, I got 62.4lbs on a bathroom scale but the wheel was moving a bit so the published specs may be more accurate. The 2020 OEM wheel/tire package of TRD OR wheels with the Goodyear Wrangler Kevlar tires weighed 62.8lbs.

Update: The MR150 16x8 0mm wheel DOES fit 3rd gen Tacoma. Dirt McGirk got them and they fit fine. Apparently customer service at Motegi don't know what they are talking about.

Did anyone ever figure out if the MR149 in 16” will clear?

I’m still torn between the 16 and 17. But if they won’t clear it kinda forces the decision.

So I ordered them in both 16 and 17. If the 16 doesn’t fit I’ll go with the 17 and just return the 16. If it fits I might still keep the 17. Summer set and winter set. Don’t tell my wife :anonymous:

So I ended up getting some 255/75/17 Cooper ST Maxx so I don’t think we’ll find out for sure on the 16s.

Maybe I could have them just throw one on without a tire to see if it clears so inquiring minds can be sure.

They were pretty jammed up and I didn’t have an appointment so I didn’t ask them to try the 16” rim. But I have more than 1/2” of clearance so I don’t see why they wouldn’t fit. I’ll get some better pictures later.

If I am not mistaken Factory 3rd Gen 16x7 Off Road wheels have a Positive 25mm Offset which equates to 4.98" of backspacing (wheel behind the mounting surface). I am running a 16x8 with a positive 10mm Offset, which is 4.89" inches of backspacing on my Tacoma with no issues.

My bad, I think you are talking about vertical caliper clearance, not horizontal clearance.

    Cheers

the mr150 in 16x8 +0 has plenty of brake clearance, I asked Motegi as well a few months ago when I bought them and got no response so I decided to go for it and try.

I like those a lot. I actually intended to go with the 16s but got a great deal on some 255/75/17 tires so I just went that route.
