    UPDATE SEE POST #33

Started noticing this sound a week or so ago. Checked all the pulleys and ended up changing out the tensioner pulley bearing. All the other bearings seemed ok. Well that didn't get rid of the squeal. As I was trying to figure out the source I put my hand on the alternator and could feel a bad vibration in it. I thought bingo I need a new alternator. Well I just got done installing the new alternator and the noise is still there. I also replaced the belt tonight too. The sound doesn't change when I turn the ac on so I dont think it's the compressor. I am bout to go back out and change the alternator so I can try and get my money back since money is tight right now.

Also the noise is coming from the driver side and seems to get a little louder as you go towards the driver's door. Sometimes it will be loud and other it will be barely noticeable.

Here are 2 videos I took the other day. Any and all help is appreciated.

Decided to take the belt off and start it to see if the noise would leave the noise is still there. I know this can’t be good.

If it's still squealing without the belt it could be the radiator fan bearing. Or it's the bearing on your pulley that drives the belt, which is connected to your flywheel. Take some WD40 and spray the bearing on your flywheel pulley and the bearing on your radiator fan. If it quiets it down for a bit then that bearing is the culprit.

Maybe I didn't use the proper terminology but without the belt only one pulley will rotate. Now that I think more about it I guess the rad fan would run of the serp belt. Must be your main pulley.

Does it change when you press the clutch pedal?

I’m not sure what you mean by main pulley. I guess I could start it back up with out the belt and see what pulley is turning.

It doesn’t change with the clutch

Just talked to my mechanic buddy and he said timing belt but I was thinking that these trucks have chains. Haven’t checked into that just yet so I’m not sure I’m that one. Either way truck is parked until I can get this figured out.

sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it doesn’t even make a sound for many miles in stop and go or highway driving.

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much about it. It sounds like a bearing, so it's only going to get worse. But you can either replace it before it fails or when it fails.
You said you ran the engine without the belt and you could still hear it so that narrows your options down quite a bit. It's gotta be your idler pulley.

I thought the belt ran on the idler pulley? Maybe I’m missing something?

Yeah the belt does run on your idler puller. I'm talking about the pulley that powers your water pump, oil pump, etc.. When you had the belt off and ran the engine did you notice that one pulley was still spinning? That's probably the squeaky one.

The only one I noticed spinning is the crankshaft pulley

Yeah that's probably where your squeak is coming from.

Might wanna check your mechanic buddy's qualifications. You are correct, 1GR-FE engines have timing chains, not belts.

So what is the fix for that?

Lol. He called me back and told me it didn’t have a belt.

Got back under there with the motor running and no belt. I’m not sure how that could cause a squeal unless it’s a crankshaft bearing in the inside of the motor.

When the squeak is happening have you tried pushing the clutch in? It’s hard to hear on the video but it could very well be the throw out bearing.

Clutch doesn’t affect it. When I bought the truck in July I had the dealer fix the throw out bearing before I bought it

Think I will drain the oil thru a rag this afternoon and see if there are any metal shavings. Not do for an oil change but I have a gut feeling that something is going out inside the motor.
