My new to me '10 5 lug tacoma w/ 208k miles has about the same noise as an agressive tread tire (BuckShots) coming from the rear with (very) street tires from between 45 mph and zero while accelerating or decellerating. I tried jacking the rear off the ground and listening but after a minute or so the traction control tries to kick in and it just doen't work. My buddy and I tried to be dog-ish and listen with our heads hanging out the window but its hard to tell if the noise is one side or both. Our general consensus says both. Any thoughts? Many thanks before hand.

    Too few to list.
Welcome to the site. Have you tried switching the fronts to the rears? Maybe it's not the tires but possibly gear or bearing whine.

    Is there a vibration also?
Better or worse when brakes applied?
Any "clunk" when rapidly accelerating and backing off the throttle?

    Rear u joint
    Brake shoes/drums
    Axle bearings
    Rear diff
    Come to mind...

    Start with the tires
Check everything else anyway since you just got it.
    Good luck

I had checked all the potential problems before posting but thanks- My research has now revealed that certain Goodyear Integrity tires have been reported to GY as having excessive road noise. Some users have logged reports of having their vehicles checked for possible wheel bearing failure, brake issues or transmission failures only to discover it was a tire issue. Thats good enough for me. Over & out...
