There are a BUNCH of things that run off the tail fuse. Tail lights, park lights, license plate lights, interior switch lights, climate control lights, auto shifter position lights, steering wheel control switch lights. Factory tow package trailer light connector does NOT run off the tail fuse. Start by looking for areas that somebody has messed with. Camper shell wiring, added on tow light connector, aftermarket stereo, pimp lights, LED lights, etc.

I had a problem similar on a Toyota Tercel and it ended up being the light switch itself was shorted , I believe you can use a volt meter to test it my the mechanic that fixed said he tested it (I don’t know how)

Now that's funny right there. I don't care who you are. - Larry the Cable Guy

It's also very good advice. Is that the side you tapped into for the brake light function on them?

Post #3 was exactly my issue . I had led headlights and led licence plate lights exactly as shown and the licence plate lights were the problem. Cheap aftermarket stuff I guess. An LED diode will short to ground and cause grief.
