I found these wire tied green net things all over my truck. I am guessing the previous owner put them in there?? Anyone have any idea what they are used for? I found 2 in the cap, which I removed when I sold it and then 4 or 5 in the engine compartment... None inside the cab but I did not check under the dash. They all look the exactly like the one in this photo....

was there anything inside the nets?
my first guess would be some DIY air freshener or rodent repellant

All of them are empty just like in the photo, they dont smell like anything. I guess its possible that they had something in then at one time or another??? I am going to remove all of them this weekend. Just wasnt sure if Toyota put them in there for some strange reason...

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Looking at the landscape in the background of your photo I would bet they used to be full of mothballs and they have dissolved. Probably to keep squirrels away. To me it would be a good sign that the truck was well cared for by the previous owner.

Or he was a total dick and was like "lets hang this shit everywhere so the next guy tries to figure it out".

You could be right about this... Both previous owners took very good care of this truck, The interior looks brand new and only a few rock chips on the outside. Not bad for hitting 160,000 miles. I do know the last owner had a problem with a squirrel eating a wire in the engine compartment, not once but ate the same wire twice. I found that out from the Toyota service records.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions... some were actually funny.. Since I live in the woods I think I will toss in some mothballs in there....

Anything as long as it keeps the truck safe.

They were probably used to hold moth balls or some type of rodent repellent. Look under the hood and see if you can see some chewing going on with the wires or rubber tubing for the wiper fluid.

I used a plastic container with holes drilled for moth balls under the hood when a squirrel took over.
