Harbor Freight tools thread.

I was guessing their ratings were for a piece of material to be bent across the entire width of the brake. I was hoping with 1 1/2" wide material I could cheat a little bit and use thicker material. I guess it doesn't work that way lol.

I've got a chunk of 6"x6"x3/8" angle iron so I think I'll use that and make my own because I can't afford one prebuilt for that thick of material. I saw some huge weld on hinges at the local metal supply I think I'll try.

Well, he said he wanted to be talked out of it, so I gave it a shot Obviously it depends on your needs, but IMO you want a lot of shallow drawers and only a few deep drawers; I can always put a circular saw or belt sander on a shelf, but that doesn't work well with a pliers collection. And if you need 10 drawers now, you should buy something with 15, because you'll keep adding to your collection and will soon be out of room; forums are good for that!

 

Two options that will bend your steel, one is cheap and good enough but not perfect, the other is the least expensive proper way of doing it.

You can easily bend 3/16" steel flat bar that's 1-1/2" wide if you use a $20 propane blow torch with the piece of steel in a vise, once the location of the desired bend is glowing hot, it needs to be positioned so you can hammer the steel, bend it over the vise jaw. Simple and does the job. Wear heavy gloves.

Other method that plenty of us have done is buy the HF 20 ton shop press, about $145 with coupon, buy the SWAG Offroad press brake kit, about $200, and you can bend steel all day long with little effort. To me that is the least expensive, quality method for clean metal brakes (sharp bends).

Thoughts on the continuous power inverter? For charging tool batteries and such, not to run any appliances in the OR rig.

The Pittsburgh 3 ton lo pro. Installing my lift blocks tomorrow and my 1.5 ton isn’t tall enough.

 

Not sure what batteries you're charging but most power tool battery chargers draw 50-100w so you'd have more than enough capacity. Maybe also look into the manufacturer for a automotive 12v charger Milwaukee, Ryobi etc should have them a lot of people need mobile battery chargers.

 

I think this has been the first time that I saw something at HF and thought: Oh hell no. I mean there are times when I think that something might fail, but this is the first when I knew it would fail in many different ways. I have no doubt it will lift 6k easily. It is the rest of it that scares me.
