Hey TW! I’ve been seeing some strange issues with my gas cap. Firstly, I got a EVAP test done, and it turned out there was a huge leak. Well, we fogged the system and sure enough the smoke came pouring out of the gas cap! The thing is, a leak of this magnitude should have set off a Check engine light, but no codes ever showed up. Does anyone know why the CEL wouldn’t come on?
Well, after I found out it was bad I did the normal thing and went to O’Reilly to get a new gas cap. Told the guy behind the counter all the information, watched him plug it in correctly, and their computer pulled up a million caps, THAT DIDNT FIT THE TRUCK! So I was there for a while and eventually gave up and went to NAPA. However, I had the exact same issue there. So now I know it’s not just a bug in one of their systems, it’s gotta be a problem with Toyota maybe? Why wouldn’t the right cap pull up? So anyways I went to Amazon and ordered it from there, installed it, and actually saw an improvement in gas mileage!

Yeah, I've had the EVAP code before. All I need to do is retighten the gas cap. It's pretty sensitive.

I just found it really strange that I didn’t get a code when it was leaking that bad. And I did try and loosen and re-tighten it a few times, that didn’t fix the issue for me.

    Stock. EZ pass.Dump pass.Inspection sticker.Convict printed lic.plates.FG cap.
It takes several driving cycles under certain conditions to throw an EVAP code. The gas cap seat on the filler neck is often overlooked. Keep the seat polished and apply vasoline to it. I've seen the seat chew up new gas cap O rings.

Not necessarily saying it’s their fault but maybe an issue with part numbers or something. It’s just too strange two auto parts stores couldn’t find it.

I had a similar experience with e brake cables. The book had different PNs for the passenger side, but just 1 for the drivers side. And of course it was too short for a dclb...
