Just wondering if I can fit a 275/65/18 with no lift. It’s basically a 32.4x10.8. Trying to do it without a lift but if I am gonna have to get a lift then I’m gonna do a 285. If it would rub just a little at full turn then I’m not gonna complain. Just as long as it’s not gonna rip my fender off. Thank you

If you use the search feature, which is far better than the search feature on other forums, you'll find that 18's on 1st gens have been discussed in length.

If you're doing it for aesthetics, then I'm sure at some point someone will chime in and offer sound advice.

Just as long as you don't expect much meat on your tire with that big of a wheel, especially since you don't have a lift and haven't mentioned being open to a pinch weld mod.

    And this is relevant how?

Some of us actually off road.

I’m still gonna have plenty of meat on the tire. And I off-road as I hunt and still have fun when I want to off-road. You offroad with a 2wd? Surprised you made it back home cause your braver than I am

I have no experience running that large of a wheel, but some of us here like a smaller wheel due to the larger selection of tires available.

I run OEM wheels (16) with 32" all terrains; they're 10 ply so I can air down as much as I need to which is typically 15psi.

Not sure what's available as far as load ranges in that size, but I myself prefer a thicker tire for when I need it.

So, the answer to this question is sort-of always the same, but of course varies a bit for everyone because of wheel choice, actual ride height, etc.

You'd be good to go read this post, which explains everything you need to take into account when you're looking at different tire sizes for a 1st gen Tacoma (or any other vehicle). What size tires fit my lifted Tacoma? Oh, and it doesn't matter if you have lift - as you'll see at the beginning of the article. So if you're trying to decide between 275 and 285 based on whether you have lift, it's irrelevant, since the travel of the suspension is the same, regardless.

Things to keep in mind are going to be outer diameter (of course), but also backspacing. At 18x10 with -24mm offset, you're looking at just about stock backspacing (assuming you don't have any wheel spacers), which is 4.5" so that will help to reduce rubbing. At 32.4" (275 size tire), you're right at the edge of what can fit in the front wheel wells with minimal rubbing. So, you're 50-50 on having to do something like the Pinch Weld Mod. To put it in perspective, with a 32" tire, you're 90% likely to fit without any mods. With a 33" equivalent tire, you're 90% likely to have to do the pinch weld mod.

Again, it's going to depend on your specific situation. Since it seems like you're planning to purchase new wheels and tires, my recommendation would be to keep your old set around for a while. If you find the rubbing is too bad for even daily driving, reinstall the old set until you have time to hammer the pinch weld a bit.

As for this bit. Neither one of you are helping the situation or the forum with bickering. :duel:
    • Nelson - we answer these questions hundreds of times, I agree. But I always try to think when I was new here. Really opens my eyes. My first question was me asking what suspension I should get, because I thought my situation was somehow unique. Makes me laugh now, since I had the most generic of all situations.
    • Avery - Don't bite when people poke at you; it's just part of TW the internet. If you can just ignore it, you'll have a way better time here (and they'll stop poking you if they don't get a response :))

    Anyway boys, back to trucks!
