This is frustrating behavior from Toyota. RAM bringing their trucks back to Michigan and Toyota builds a second plant in Mexico and moves Tacoma their too.

Toyota built new plant in Guanajuato in Central Mexico. Toyota is taking a lot of work from San Antonio down to this new plant and is getting basically Part-time work in return with sequoias which only sold 11k units. Why not build another plant in the US and send Tacoma there? This is I think what most people are upset about. Why send the more profitable product over the border and the prices are still going to go up anyways.

I know the postal service sometimes uses RHD Jeeps. I wonder if RHD Tacomas could contend with Jeeps in a postal application?

But why send full Taco Production to a facility in Mexico when the San Antonio plant already makes most of them. Send Tundra to Indiana to be with the sequoia and let San Antonio keep the Tacoma. Then send the Highlander and sienna to the 2nd Mexico plant.

That’s a lot of shuffling for no reason. Why not keep the Highlander and Sienna where they are currently being made in Indiana, send the Sequoia to be made with the Tundra (the vehicle it has most in common with) in the factory that’s specialized for said Tundra, and ramp up production of the Tacoma in the factory that already makes exclusively Tacoma’s and add production of the popular truck to the new factory they built? Doesn’t that make much more sense? Full-size pickups are a massive, massive market, and as much as I love it the current Tundra it is outdated and incapable compared to the competition. There’s no reason not to believe Toyota when they say they want to increase Tundra production with the new generation.

The next generation tacoma and tundra are going to share the same platform so it seems like it would make sense to keep them together.

Yes and no, the 4Runner is going to be on that same platform and I doubt they’ll move production from the Tahara plant. If it made sense Toyota would’ve done it.

Lol I'm pretty sure the team that is coordinating a $11B manufacturing plan for Toyota is better than this team at TacomaWorld!
    I do know one thing:
Their moves are built on what is going to happen five years from now, not now. Their charter will be two-fold... Make sure the customer (us) is able to get a quality product in a timely fashion and B) Make money while doing it.

Believe it or not the "making money" part is not a company like Toyota's first thought. It is providing a quality product to the customer. After they figure that out and how much it will cost, THEN they go "Holy Shit, this is going to cost a ton of money. We gotta be smarter/better/innovative in all facets of the process.
It's mind boggling just how much raw material (metals, petroleum for plastics, etc) a company like Toyota purchases each day!
Take tires for example... Just getting their quota of tirs for the Tacoma each month. 125K tires, say 35 lbs each = around 2200 Tons of rubber and steel belts! This equals the weight of 951 Complete Tacomas! In tires! Now imagine all the rest of the vehicles Toyota produces! But I ramble. When thinking about the sheer magnitude of... stuff... that a company this size consumes, in addition to the logistics, well it just makes my pea brain spin.
