90,000mi Maintenance

Just hit 90,000mi the other week and I want to make sure I take care of all the routine maintenance that is necessary.

I'm going to change;
-fuel filter, any particular brand?
-front/rear differential fluid. Is Mobil 1 syn

$29 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

75w-90 for both safe? additive?
-transfer case fluid. Mobil 1 syn 75w-90.
-Spark plugs. I suppose the dealer is the best place to get these.
-Timing belt. Should I get the water pump changed as well?
-O2 sensors. How difficult will that be?

Is there anything that you would add? I have a 2004 3.4 V6 TRD with locking rear differential.

 

Definitely replace the water pump as well as the timing belt tensioner when you do the timing belt. Try to replace as many replaceable things while the front of the engine is torn apart. There is also an idler pulley for the timing belt that is def recommended to change. Dont replace O2 sensors unless needed. The are good to go as long as they dont throw a code. Spark plugs. Def get the dual ground spark plugs that are OE or equivilant. You do not need to go to the dealer for those.

I dont know about a fuel filter but just get the OE replacement. It works just fine the way it is. And that should be just about it. I dont know about the fluid additives for the rear diff tho. I dont have a locker so maybe someone with one can chime in? Hope this helps

 

My 2001 at 90,000 miles also got a new water pump when the timing belt was replaced... as a drip was seen (it never failed)... In fact, nothing ever failed on my '01... kept me in Toyotas, on #3 Tacoma now (5 year leases).

75w-90 for both safe? additive? No additive needed for the 01 I just changed mine with 80w-90w as it's recommended in the manual I have been reading that guys are using 75w-90w but it's all been 2nd gens
-transfer case fluid. Mobil 1 syn 75w-90.
-Spark plugs. I suppose the dealer is the best place to get these. You can get spark plugs just about any auto parts store
-Timing belt. Should I get the water pump changed as well? Hell yes buy a timing belt kit that comes with everything you need to change.
-O2 sensors. How difficult will that be? Just and opened end wrench and maybe some penetrating lube but Ive never changed mine so I could me wrong

 

If ur changing the timing belt and water pump...u might as well do the T-stat while ur at it...all 3 are in the same basic location...
