Ridgelines are a meme on TW. Sounds like you already understand it.

Funny guy where I works drives a Ridgeline he parks with the car crowd which is real close to the building. All us truck guys park at the far end of the parking lot as far from the doors as you can get. Most of us drive nice very taken care of trucks and we respect each other’s space never park close enough to ding someone’s truck.

By definition on tacomaworld, one is for the posers and one isn’t.

Posers? Heh :) . So, which is one is which? The Sport is for posers? The Off Road? Or was that the Ridgeline?

When shopping for my OR the sales guy took me to a Sport they had on the lot. It was loaded with every conceivable option and it was a color I could not abide. He then tried to sell me on the hood scoop and the hood decals. I told him the last new vehicle I bought with a hood scoop had the scoop connected directly to the carburetor and protruded through the hood and was functional. If he could do that for me with the Sport I would but it from him. That other new car also had a monstrous screaming decal which covered the entire hood. The sales guy found me the OR I was looking for.

There is no difference. it's all a sales scheme developed by Toyota to separate buyers and stew opposition. They may "look" different, but there are not "real" differences. The "scoop" doesn't really do anything and the "shocks" are no different. There is no "locker" and does "crawl control" even exist? Who are you? Do you exist? how are you asking these questions. I've said too much

I have a fully bro-ified Sport and I'm very happy with it. It does have a lift and larger tires - the OEM Sport suspension is long since in the dumpster along with the front lower air dam. I have no locker, but have yet to be bested by any Wal Mart or mall parking lot - even without crawl control! Yes, the skewp is useless but for some reason everyone is looking for one. As has been said, test drive both, evaluate your needs and uses for the truck, and go with what you can afford and what makes you happy. Only you can decide what you should drive. They're both good options.

Hood Decals? Sounds like he was showing you a PRO, not a sport.

There are multiple youtube videos addressing your question. At the end of the day, the off-road has appealing features for what the name implies and the Sport could be a little more cosmetically appealing for those not headed for the trails due to the color matched fenders, the hood scoop and the rims (although it appears that most people lean toward the 16" rims and bigger tires anyway). Also, don't read too much as you'll find the sport owners blacking out their fenders and their bumper valance. You'll also see the off-road owners getting a hood scoop. Almost everyone changes out the suspension anyway and you're left with the "do you want a locker and crawl control" debate. I find that to be the valid point between the 2. So, just figure out if the off road features are important to you, and the rest is all looks.

It can have all the decals you can fit on there. But having hood decals while still on the lot sounds like a PRO....

I have a 2016 Sport- Hated the Scoop - All it did was block view when cresting a steep hill - Traded it to Katie for her OR flat hood (as in the picture) I have 5100 shocks (Stock shocks will die quickly if you are off the pavement much. As for crawl-control - I chose (wisely) a Manual Transmission. My tires are also not stock - Run 235/85-16's so I can chain up all 4 wheels (A must if you plan on going up steep hills in heavy snow). I would have purchased the OR Model - but, at the time, could only get it in an Automatic ---sorry, I want to be the transmission computer. I've been very pleased with all aspects of the truck - Only thing I would like is heated seats (My 2018 4R has spoiled me)
