I'm looking to understand the difference between these two zinc coatings.
    • Zinc-Aluminum Coated Class 12.9 Alloy Steel (ASTM B117, DIN 912, ISO 4762)
    • Zinc-Plated Class 12.9 Alloy Steel (DIN 912, ISO 4762)
ASTM-B117 is a salt test. Since the bolts are similar price I'm assuming the is some benefit to Zinc-Plate over Zinc-Aluminum.

Looks like Zinc-Aluminum is a hot dipped process using Zinc and Aluminum as an alloy instead of just pure Zinc. This will allow it to have the similar corrosion resistance as Galvanized but with a thinner and more aesthetically pleasing coating.

Zinc plated is just plain Zinc Chromate and is only 1 step above plain coated in terms of corrosion resistance. Zinc plated fasteners are not rated for outdoor or high-corrosive environments due to how quickly the zinc coating is compromised with red rust.
