Living in very similar (if not the same) conditions being at 8000' in the mountains of Colorado. I decided to get the Duratracs this fall to test out. Having run a few other sets of tires in the past like the Falken At3w. so far after 6500 miles this winter this is what I have found. On Ice they are good not great, better traction than nearly any all terrain I have used. Beaten only slightly by the Falkens but beating the Cooper ST Maxx and General Grabber AT2. on Packed snow the traction is very good one of the best I have found, good forward traction, very good braking and good lateral traction. In deep snow its very good, I never found a time I ran out of traction until I ran out of ground clearance on the truck. On Wet/Slush covered roads they traction is excellent. Dry pavement traction is also very good with minimal noise for an aggressive tire. In cold temps Sub 10 degrees they stay rather soft and grip well until about -15 when they start to become hard and lose about 20% of the overall traction. 1113191146a_HDR.jpg 0110201121b.jpg

Thanks for the review, CoWj. I’m pretty sure I made the right decision. :)

I ran Cooper AT3’s in a C rated 31”. They were fantastic wherever I took them. I’m in Maine so snow and ice are part of life. I ended up slicing a sidewall and when I went to buy more they had stopped making the C rated. I went to a Falken wild peak in an E rated 32”. They are good in the snow and the woods. The only drawback is the weight. I definitely feel the drag.

FWIW, we went to Iceland a couple of years ago and most of the trucks we saw were running Duratracs.
