Searched the forums and couldn't find an explanation for the folding rear head rest in the double cab. Can anyone explain their purpose?
    Thanks

They fold to give you more visibility out of the rear window

I thought it they articulated so you could put the back seats down flat without removing the head rests. They work pretty good for attaching a pet cover in the back seats as well otherwise it would be a tight squeeze to get the snaps behind the headrest with them upright.

they fold forward, not backwards. you have to remove them to fold the seats down, but there are holes on the back of the seat bottom that are visible when the seat bottoms are flipped up. you store the headrests in these holes. they fold forward for improved rear window visibility. i used to fold them down, but i like that they block headlights, so i just leave them up.

One of my first mods - pulled the rear headrests and placed them in a plastic bag for storage until resale time.

Well, a strange thing happened when I folded mine down, wondering if anyone has had the same problem. One of them folded down just fine, the other, weirdly enough, folded down PAST the 90 degree mark (to about 110 degrees) and when I reinstall the headrest, 1) it doesn't lock in place, and 2) when I raise it, it doesn't raise up all the way to "normal", it tilts forward about 20 degrees. What the heck?????

    NO!!!!!

I was learning about my new truck a couple weeks ago, and tilted the bottom of the back seat up, then removed the headrests (per the manual) and stuck them in the appropriate holes in the seat bottom. Was just checking out how the back seat folded down and included the step to remove the headrests and place them in the holes in the seat bottom, is all. Then I was TRYING to REINSTALL the headrest where it belongs, got one of them right by luck, and was trying to install the other one, but backwards. A 50/50 chance to get it right and I kept trying to install it bassackwards, that's all.......
