    Dear Everybody,

Does anybody know who was responsible for engineering the Toyota 5VZ-FE 3.4 Liter V6 engine? Was it completely Toyota? Some say Yamaha had a hand in it. Some say Hino developed it.

Thank you in advance for all of your replies.

    Take it easy,
    Paul

Good question but I bet they don't want people to know who made such a good long lasting engine. We as the consumer are not replacing them which doesn't make them much money. If you google search it not much comes up.

I've only heard rumors that Yamaha helped design the heads for the 3.4L for Toyota. Again, only a rumor. I can't find a single actual source for that.... Besides some posts on a forum years ago, which means rumors basically. Maybe Yamaha did help design the head, maybe they didn't. Either way can't be too significant or else we'd know for sure :D

That's a nice piece of information there :) No wonder I am a Yamaha and Toyota fan. When the Ford Taurus SHO came out I think they also went in with Yamaha on the engine design. Says a lot about a manufacturer when they go in and help others. I see a lot of un-informed public talking crap about the new Supra with it's BMW heritage. These same people don't know any of the history either. Here is my Yamaha/Toyota picture. Kind of partial to Black.Zeke warrior.jpg

Not sure about any engine components in my '16 Lexus RX350 but I do know Yamaha supposedly did the wood trim components in its interior IE the center console and door inserts.

I recall, thanks to your second link, regarding the 5vze, a very well-versed individual in here, chris4x4, telling me these 3.4s were "overbuilt" with strong internals and so well-balanced (which is why they sound like a giant Hoover vacuum) which is why they could easily handle a SC and more.

I have wondered this too. Interesting thing I heard about the Lexus V8 1uz....... engine. It is the only automobile engine approved for use in aircraft. (I know other engines are used in planes and ultralights but this is the only approved one ... what ever that means)

Let's say Yamaha did design the heads. I wouldn't be surprised if many more companies had some part in the design/production of most of the components as well. It's extremely common, just maybe not that well advertised.

I remember when Lexus first came out people were making fun of them for basically being a Toyota with leather, like that's a bad thing, lol...

That said, I'm not sure it really matters. It's not like you're going to call up Yamaha or go to your local Yamaha dealer and order heads.

Look at the supply chain for something like the Airbus A380. There are dozens, if not hundreds of individual companies that were involved in designing and building it.

You've stated it about as accurate as we'll get it. Unless folks from the supply chain of when it was built show up. :D
Toyota designed, spec'ed, engineered the overall vehicle. Many many seperate and sister businesses/companies produce the parts Toyota uses when they assemble the vehicle on their assembly line.
